2y old son bleeding

Thread Starter
Yesterday my 2 year old DS was on his own in another room, with DH nearby. He all of a sudden started wailing, and came to DH all upset. DH didn't see anything visibly wrong, had not heard a bang or anything to indicate he'd fallen, etc. When DH took him to the potty later on, the tip of his penis had blood on it. Throughout the day, there was just one more time when I saw blood, and it looked like old blood, nothing ever in his underware. The tip is also a bit red. Penis doesn't seem too swollen (maybe a tiny bit), and he has no fever or anything else suspicious. I tried collecting some of his urine in a container, and it doesn't appear to have blood in it. He isn't hesitating in peeing or looking upset when he goes, but after it seems a bit sensitive for a bit. If I wash it off, it seems better. I'm guessing the urine probably stings. He has been playing with it a lot. Is there a chance he retracted it more than he should have accidentally, or scratched it somehow? His nails are pretty jagged.

I read the thread on separation. It was the blood that made me wonder if there was something wrong, but it wasn't much and is long gone now. So what do you guys think??

My guess would be that he scratched himself, I would just continue what you are doing and not worry about it too much. The foreskin is like your lip it doesn't take much to make it really swell up, so my guess is it was something minor and it will heal on it's own.

I agree with the other poster. He probably scratched it a bit OR even pulled the skin back a little to far and maybe caused something to rip a bit. Should be no big deal. However I would cut his nails really short, just in case. I personally HATE long nails on myself, because I am always accidently scratching myself down there when I wash. LOL

yup, he was probably self-exploring and was a little too rough with himself. It will heal up. Blood can indicate that he tore one of the natural adhesions which is also a normal part of the process...
