Neighbor leaves pile of dog feces on their porch

So, it is starting to get nice out and we really want to start using our deck and yard for DS to play in. Thing is, the neighbors contain their pitbull on their porch and she poops there. In stead of cleaning it up daily they now have a nice sized pile in the corner closest to our property. It stinks so bad I can hardly spend more than 5 min outside, forget about keeping my back windows open.

We live in the city and houses are close together with only a chain link fence to separate the properties.

Are there any laws requiring them to clean it up? I know it is their property and if it was just one or 2 poops I would be fine but it looks like they have not pick up in 1-2 weeks, instead just shoveled it to the side.

I am going to say something next time I see them but honestly it can go weeks between seeing anyone there. Also, the guy is this huge scary looking guy I am a little worried about confronting. Hopefully I will see the wife and have a conversation with her instead. They have kids too but they are never outside.

I would call the health dept. Animal Control might be of assistance, too. That is horribly unsanitary!

Ewww!! That is so horrible.

I don't have advice, but I just wanted to say that I hope the issue gets resolved quickly and easily.

That's just so not nice. :

I would just contact the local animal control services and see if there are any laws in your city regarding the issue. I don't think there would be but it dosen't hurt to ask.

Do you have an HOA? If so let them know about the issue.

I would TALK to your neighbor first before going anywhere else! Perhaps they are under the impression that shoveling it into a corner is 'away'. My roomate is almost as bad, often he lets his dogs loose in the yard and does not pick it up. I walk my dogs and pick up after them but if I want to play fetch with my dog I have to poop scoop after their dog first, or walk a mile to the park! If the neighbor seems really difficult perhaps there is a local older kid that would clean up their dog for a week for a small fee. A few years aago I had a neighbor that cleaned up after my dog and mowed my lawn for $20 a week, it was worth it because I did not own a lawn mower and was pregnant so the smell of the poop did a number on my stomach
