Diaper cream options?

So...we use sposies :

My question is about diaper cream though. We put A&D ointment on him when we change him and it works just fine, but he has started moving around a lot when I change him (he is 16 weeks) and so he gets it all over his legs and his hands and I'm afraid he's going to eat it! Is it bad for him to ingest? He is EBF.

Also - are there other options that are natural and won't hurt him if he eats it? He's been trying to put his feet in his mouth and can't quite reach - so he tries during diaper changes too.

TIA

I would suspect (though this is only a supposition, and I could be wrong) that no cream is great to ingest... That said, when my daughter's diaper rash was out of control, our doctor recommended we use Maalox instead (as a diaper cream that wouldn't hurt to wipe off a raw bum). Now Maalox is also not something you'd willingly give a baby, but clearly it is intended to be ingested and therefore may be much less harmful in the small amounts that your son would get into his mouth than a zinc oxide cream would be...

Can you just let him "air out" during the day....meaning no diaper..sometimes that is the best cure.

We use earth mama angel baby, which has a lot of just natural, organic good stuff in it - that would probably be less harmful (but also more costly!) than some of the other stuff. But a lot of babies really don't need cream all the time... I would just use a heavier cream if there is an issue. But I agree with pp - a bit of airing out is good is always a good thing!
