Going coverless

When dd was in diapers, I left her coverless almost all the time when we were at home, usually by pinning the prefold (I had a : moment when I discovered when she was nearly two that I had been pinning the prefolds wrong the whole time and that's why they kept falling off). Sometimes by using fitteds.

My mother, too, prefers to leave a baby coverless. That way we can change them the minute they pee. They never get diaper rash, and any rash they may already have clears up in a few hours.

Everyone else I know seems to prefer pockets, AIO's or AI2's because they're easier and don't leak on the outside. I'm just wondering, don't babies in non-breathable diapers get rashy quickly if their parents don't really stay on top of the changing? Everyone I know IRL who uses cloth is in love with Fuzzi Bunz, but even if I didn't have a problem with microfleece stink, I wouldn't like that they don't breathe and it's harder to tell when they're wet.

Anyone have any experience with this, or comments?

I am raising hand in the class of not a fan of fuzzi bunz or any other diapers with synthetics.
Yes my child had issues with synthetic diapers and rashes due to them. I believe any cloth is better than no cloth, but I most definitely prefer natural fibers next to natural skin. IMO and experience watching the growth of the cloth diapering community over the last 8 years there are about 50% who love and can use synthetics and there are another 50% who choose otherwise either because of allergies or they don't want the synthetics, or they like the beauty of the non mass produced wahm art.

I have a little bit of everything in my stash and what we use really depends on convenience at the moment. I like the idea of natural fibers next to the skin, and I do have some pockets that I really like, but I reach for fitteds a lot because they are so easy and I feel like they hold in my toddler's runny poo a bit better.

It is way easier to tell when he is wet without a cover on, or in natural fibers in general. But we haven't had rashes when using pockets, either. If I miss a poo for some reason, and leave it on a little too long, he'll get a rash, but that happens no matter what diaper he has on!

We are just starting to have some interest in the potty, and that's a lot easier with a fitted, too, for us.

I usually use prefolds with no cover around the house, but I do have some pockets because I just think they're easier when we're out and about.

I'm with you - I prefer no synthetics - wool covers for night and coverless during the day - until they are mobile and I don't want pee on my couch/carpet so we used and will be using wool (due in June - DS out of dipes)....However, I have used PUL for outings......fits better under clothes and I can wipe clean. Not ideal IMO.

We use a combination as well--really depending on what we are doing, where we are, and who is watching him. At home we are coverless with either a fitted or prefold--more fitted now because he can pull them down to use the potty, wool at night, and pockets for out and about or when daddy lor grandpa is watching him.

Poppy is always in a coverless flat at home, now it is getting to be colder i might start putting a pair of wool pants over the top. I use bg and itty bitty delish nappys when out, i find she tends to get a bit of a rash if we are out for a few days running.
