What dessert do I make for my dh's B-Day?

I need your favorite dessert recipes and ideas on what to make for my dh's birthday. I've asked him a couple of times and he has said both times not to worry about it. He finally said last night that I could just make the brownie mix that I had in the pantry.

I really like to bake and make desserts (which he knows) so I want to make him something. Plus, he loves it when I do cook treats like that. He also said last night that he really doesn't have a favorite thing so he'd really just be happy with anything.

His birthday is on Thursday so I have a few days to come up with something. Ladies I need your inspiration. Spam me with your favorites!

I've been baking up a storm this week, and this strawberry shortcake http://www.foodtv.ca/recipes/reciped...px?dishid=7790 is INCREDIBLE!!! OMG my friends and I were floored with how tasty it is.

My dh loves ice cream cake, so for his bday I'm making an icecream cake.

Pretty much:
springform pan
Oreo crumb bottom
melt some semisweet chocolate chips with some cream and vanilla and pour over the crumb bottom. Cool.

Make ice cream (for his bday I'm going to make vanilla and add raspberries) Or soften icecream slightly so that you can smooth it over the base. sprinkle toppings of choice. For the raspberry one I think I'll do almond slivers mixed with the oreo topping, then drizzle some of the chocolate stuff over that just to look better. Cool in freezer.

is he a chocolate guy? My dh just got a black forest cake for his b-day and was pretty happy, he also loves homemade peanut butter brownies (replace half the butter with peanut butter) with fudgey icing.

Your dh's bday is the day before mine's is! So I totally know where you are coming from.

I have decided that I am going to make a red velvet cake for his bday. If you are averse to using food coloring you might not want to try this but I have a weakness for it, think it's lush and beautiful and love its slightly retro kitschy-ness. So that's my vote.

For my dd's upcoming party I'm going to be making a pink frosted layer cake as well as coconut cupcakes with lemon icing.

I have an ice cream maker, too, so I'm thinking a lemon custard ice cream but haven't totally decided on that part... I love baking!

Happy baking to you, too!

Oh, this is such a hard one to answer. Lets see, I can make a mean chocolate cake but for some reason the last time I tried that I failed miserably and I don't know why. I've been reluctant to try again. Normally, I can rock the cake arena.

I also have good luck with angel food cakes from scratch but he's a bit ambivalent about angel food cakes. I think those might be more my thing than his. He likes them though, just not one of his favs I guess.

I might have to think more about this. I tend to be super critical of my abilities in the kitchen. People always are very complimentary though. I shouldn't worry about it. I wanted to do something that was different then I normally do and something that he isn't expecting, yk.

How about hot milk cake (super easy) with strawberries, ice cream and whipped cream?

My DH is easy in this department... his favorite cake is carrot, but if I can get my hands on blueberries, a pie is the way to go.

Personally I've never found cakes to be all that - I much prefer pies or other desserts. Butterscotch pudding from scratch is phenomenal (another of my DH's faves) - you could probably even use it as a filling on a white or yellow cake for extra oomph. Steamed pudding (it's a Brit cake) is also excellent if the weather is still cold. Any kind of pie - lemon meringue, apricot-blackberry, blueberry cheese, we're not terribly picky. Pumpkin bread pudding, custards, flans, even just a bowl of my homemade ice cream and some cookies hot from the oven make my guy happy.

I made my dh a carrot cake w/ cream cheese icing for his bday - it was really yummy. I used the carrot cake recipe from the Pioneer Woman's site - just omitted the nuts (dh isn't a fan).

For ds2's birthday, I made a chocolate trifle type thingy....I don't really know what to call it, though it is definitely yummy (and easy too!!). You just prepare a chocolate cake and some chocolate pudding and some whipped cream (from scratch if you want - I've used mixes in a pinch). Let your cake cool, cut it in cubes, fold it into your pudding, and place it in a 9x13 pan (The recipe I have makes a large cake, or two small round ones - I use half of the cake to fill the 9x13). Top the pudding/cake with whipped cream, and sprinkle with Skor bits (or any other chopped candy bar/candy). Let sit in the fridge for at least an hour before serving (even better if overnight!). Very simple, yet super yummy!! :

Ds1's birthday is the 18th of May - so I'm definitely subbing for some ideas for his cake!

Oh, and don't forget cheesecake! How could I forget cheesecake! WHether you go with a traditional vanilla topped with some fresh berries, or go for something more out there like pumpkin, caramel or chocolate. They're all yummy.

I made my dh a guinness chocolate cake this past feb for his birthday. It's fab. This recipe seems pretty similar (I did Nigella Lawson's)

Brownies from scratch are great too.

So, Dh called me from work today to tell me that he thought of what he wanted.
He wants Tiramisu! I forgot all about Tiramisu so I'm glad that he thought of it. I am happy that I get to make him something that he asked for.: So, if any of you have a great Tiramisu recipe then I'll be all ears. I'm going to try to hunt one down today.

Thank you all for the great ideas. I am planning to try a lot of these out in the very near future. :

Glad your husband thought of a yummy dessert. Here's a link to a hot milk cake recipe (I don't do the topping in the recipe at all.)

I guess it's sort of old fashioned? I like it because I always have all the ingredients on hand and it's really easy. Not to mention that it's really good, especially with berries, whipped cream and ice cream--it's a great 4th of July dessert with blueberries and strawberries!

Ooh, thank you, that does look good. I think my Grandma used to make something like this. I bookmarked that. Yum:
