I know this has been discussed here before, but I thought it might be nice to have one thread where we could discuss different books on training and behavior....anyone want to discuss?

I am hoping we could maybe get enough info on here to warrant a sticky

I like My Smart Puppy by Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson. It's very moderate and touches on many different techniques like clicker training, but is quick to disabuse out-dated dangerous techniques, while really straddling a pretty moderate line in dog training. It's very thorough and thoughtful and very practical and fun. Great book and comes with a DVD, too!

I second My Smart Puppy. Like the PP said it is very thorough. It does talk about all kinds of training methods but also points out the shortcomings as well. They preach calm, clear leadership without resorting to harsh techniques.

They teach you behaviors to teach your dog that establish your leadership without resorting to hitting, rolling, cuffing, etc. Really is an excellent book.

I really like Patricia McConnell's Books. They're not so much on specific thing to train - but it made me such a better dog owner and trainer after reading them. You'll understand your dog better, and that in turn helps you train better. (Plus they're really fun to read because she sticks some cases she's worked on in there too!)

The Other End of the Leash

For the Love of a Dog

Puppy Primer (This one does have specific training techniques)

I really like Suzanne Clothier (Bones would rain from the sky) and also Patricia McConnell (Other end of the leash). I find they really give you good insight into what goes on in a dog's mind, it's a unique perspective. I would recommend these to anyone - they are not "how to teach your dog to sit" kind of books though.

I have some others that I like but can't think of them off the top of my head. Will try to come back and post if I remember.
