Funny "chick-lit"?

Tell me some super girlie reads that had you :!

I really enjoyed Jen Lancaster's books, Bridget Jones's Diary, Something Borrowed/Blue (Emily Griffen?), and Erma Bombeck books ()

I didn't care for Good in Bed because I thought the whole thing was too contrived followed by suddenly being too sad.

I don't mind some thoughtful moments, or a big conflict, but if there's going to be angst I prefer it gently spread through the story not dolloped on at the end like the world's most depressing sour cream.

Hmmm...I'm reading the Heather Wells Mysteries (Size 12 is Not Fat, Big Boned, etc.) by Meg Cabot (author of The Princess Diaries.) They're pretty funny, light-hearted and entertaining albeit a bit immature and simple.

I also thought The Shopoholic series had it's moments of funny.

Tales of a Drama Queen and True Lies of a Drama Queen by Lee Nichols made me giggle out loud.

You're asking for chick lit but I'm not sure if you want more quality stuff or just sort of a "junk" read?

I don't know it it's considered "chick-lit," but John Irving's books are pretty funny. My faves were The World According to Garp and A Prayer for Owen Meany.

DSD and I couldn't put down
Mr. Maybe by Green

Hillarious quick read.

It doesn't really have to be chick-lit, I just like the stuff I mentioned and want more. That sort of topic, weight loss, organizing the home, being anxious about stuff I don't have to worry about myself and can go "neener neener" to the characters about while being a bit jealous of how they all seem to end up gainfully employed.

I love love LOVE Marian Keyes' books!!!! Really, they are so good
Funny (hilarious even) but with some depth too.

edit: They are quite "big" books too, so she can weave a quite extensive story that really draws you in. I love the fact that it takes me a while to finish them - if it's a thinner book, it's often over so quickly, you know.

I've liked other ones, like the Shopaholic series, or "The Defrosting of Charlotte Small" by Annabel Giles, "The Undomestic Goddess" or "Can you keep a secret" (both also by Sophie Kinsella),
But Marian Keyes is really a different category, IMO.

I've liked all of Jane Green's books. SC- Jemima J (by Green) deals with weightloss.

And yes, Marian Keyes is terrific. Often there is a dark thing going on, but very well spread out.

I'm another Jane Green fan- I've really enjoyed all of her books.

Another Jane Green fan here. I also love Katie Fforde.

The funniest chick lit I can think of (I don't enjoy the Shopaholic books) is Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by Helen Fielding.

Also, if you can find it (I'm pretty sure it's out of print,) The Secret Life of Eva Hathaway by Janice Weber is one of my top 5 all-time favorite books. It's from the 1980s, but I read somewhere that it was a pre-cursor to chick lit.

Secret history of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig was very cute if you like a light mystery/romance/history combo. I also loved Jane Green's early work and Sophie Kinsella.

Definitely the Shopaholic series. (Although they got more predictable/contrived...she should've just kept with the first one.)

Can You Keep a Secret is another good one, mentioned upthread. (Same author.)

I go back to the Nanny Diaries pretty often when I need a good beach or bathtub read.

I loved Janet Evanovich's One For The Money series about the young, sometimes bumbling, female bounty hunter. They're not great literature but they are so fun to read!

I got hooked on those when I worked at the public library. All the librarians and staff were reading those books. Good times!

This reminded me of the Alphabet mysteries by Sue Grafton. I don't know if they are considered chick lit but I love them! Start with A is for Alibi and work your way through the alphabet.
