how long will a nb/small stash last?

The majority of my stash is all smalls and newborns, and I majorily lucked out by my stash only costing me 10 bucks, due to very generous friends and trading at diaperswappers.com. I'd say I have about 16 fitted diapers all nb or smalls, and 27 all in one's all newborn and smalls as well. I have a rare medium here and there, and I'm waiting on 3 BG OS AIO Organics. So I have a ton of diapers I know, but I'm worried that they won't fit for long....I know some of the dipes I have def. won't last much past the newborn stage, but some look a bit bigger and like they could last a bit longer. The majority of my stash is well used, so it won't be easy to just sell off to buy bigger sizes when the time comes, plus I'd like to save for the next baby whenever that will be.

Should I start stocking up on medium and large or os dipes now, or will my stash last a good few months at least? Also, my mil will probably be able to make some diapers for me so that may save some money as well. Thanks ladies

I am assuming that this is your first baby?....Otherwise i would ask you what weight your previous babes were to just get an idea but you can't always go by that either. ....that being said it just depends on your baby.

For instance they could last you anywhere from 1 month to 3 mos. or they may not fit at all! Like in my case with ds. But I would say for an average size baby at birth growing at a "normal" pace they should last you at LEAST 6 weeks.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I didn't start CD dd2 until she was 6mos. old..but nb size would have lasted me about 6 weeks depending on the dipe...she was average size at birth but grew REALLY fast....and like mentioned previously on the other hand ds came out too big for most nb sizes. He was 10+lbs.

My DD1 wore disposables but was in preemies/small size for six months. DD2 was out of NB (Bummis) in a few weeks and out of smalls by 4 months. She was 8lbs at birth and almost 20 lbs at 5 months.

Depends on how big your baby is! It also depends on the diaper. DS was 9 lbs 1 oz at birth. He is 4.5 months now, and probably 15 lbs. He is still in smalls (we use thirsties fab fitteds, Motherease Sandy's or BG OS right now, and I just bought a few fuzzi bunz in small because I hear they run big). I'm hoping these diapers will last a couple more months, but I'm starting to think about collecting more OS diapers along with some mediums and prefolds. I know other mamas who had babies in mediums by 4 months. It is kind of a gamble, but I would guess that your nb and smalls will get you through for a good amount of time.

Again, it depends on the babe and the dipe. DD was a wee one and has mostly been in prefolds and covers.

Regular prefolds worked from birth through about 10 months. DD wore both x-small and small Thirsties dipe covers. From about 10 months on, DD has been in premium prefolds and medium Thirsties dipe covers.

We have had a variety of one-size dipes (AIOs and pockets). None of them have ever worked out that well, for us. I am guessing because DD is so slim...

thanks mamas,

I have a variety of brands and styles and some look way bigger than others so I'm hoping they'll last at least 3-4 months.

I'm going to start adding in some mediums as well, and I have some more one size dipes coming in from trades. Do you ladies like sized dipes or os dipes better? I've heard that the OS are way too big and bulky on newborns, but I figure they'll be great for overnights as well. Can I put doublers in BG AIO OS dipes, and similar dipes? I've heard that AIO's aren't the most absorbent. I also have about a dozen or so prefolds that are very torn and stained, I figure I can use those as doublers and to stuff any pockets I might have. Will that work?

Oh, and I'm thinking my baby will be on the smaller size, a medication I must take can lead to smaller babies. Plus I'm hoping the fact that I'm only 5'1" will lead me to have a small enough baby for my build lol. We'll see.

I'm so happy I found the CD love Though we'll see how I feel once I'm actually CD'ing a baby haha.

Newborn dipes lasted me about 6 weeks, until around the 10ish pound mark. Smalls made it to about 4 months.

Just wait. The NBs can fit from 0 weeks to 4 months. The smalls could fit from 0 weeks to 10 months. You just don't know what size baby you will have, and how fast he/she will grow. Also, all brands of diapers fit differently. Plus, you don't yet know what diapers you will like and want to buy more of in the larger sizes. And finally, once you fall in love with cloth, you will be happy to have a reason to buy more later on!

I would put diaper stash money away right now and only snag something in a med if it is a great price.

My kids were 12 and 12lbs 2oz at birth. they were born into mediums as they also had super chunky thighs. Both were in larges by 4/5 months. So I only got a few mediums and then stocked up on larges and one size.

My friend has a 2 year old who is still in mediums and will most likely never wear larges.

Since you don't know how big your baby will be I would just save some $$ towards bigger dipes.
