whats a good nipple?

My 5 month old had no problems with taking a bottle when she was younger, so I thought it would always be like that, and did not give her one for a long time, because nursing was easier than pumping. Now of course she wont take a bottle. I have heard that trying different brand nipples can help. I have the Avent ones, and they are obviously not working, plus they don't seem anything like my breasts. Any advice?

Of course they dont seem anything like mama nipples, they are plastic and hard in comparasin... they must be so nasty to a bf baby.

Try a sippy cup?

Playtex nurser

I've used the playtex nurser nipples with my son the few times I've had to pump & he's done fine after a little fussiness for Daddy......I also used these on my youngest when I worked away from home and had to pump too.

Anyways I've found mine at Target the flat ended brown colored by playtex not clear nipples I can't remember the name but my kids never liked any other type of nipples (besides mommies of course lol)......

When I read the starting line of this thread I had to laugh b/c of a funny story when my youngest (6 mos now) we took him in for his 3 day check and the nurse checked our latch on technique.....anyways she commented on my good nipples for nursing so naturally when I read the line "What's a good nipple" I had to open it!

I had the same thought.

As far as bottle nipples go, it depends, babies have preferences. Many moms get one of each and experiment.

Of course, he may not take a bottle from you at all. Dad or Grandma may get him to take one.

Why do you need bottles now? Working outside the home? Or just want a break? Many 5 mos will go about 3 hours without nursing (breast or bottle), if the caretaker is fun. Maybe just a cup of water in case of thirst.

My dh was able to watch mine starting at that age for that long.

My MIL watched dd while dh and I went to an important dinner together when she was 6 mos. No bottles, but she did get her to suck on a paci for a while, somethng she had always refused before!

Of course, expect a marathon nursing session (or day) when you get home.
