For part-time off hour work - group home/residential facilities often run 24 hours and look for per diem work/part-time work.

I do something similar to goldfishkate. I work 20 hrs a week when dh is off and never had to worry about childcare. I asked for and got a 6pm to 10pm shift 4 nights a week and 4 hrs Saturday afternoon. I get to be with the kids all day (I homeschool) and just about all weekend. I'm home enough to also spend lots of time with dh.

It's a perfect situation for us. And I'm bringing home about $1600/month. I can't tell you how much that helps.

I try to concentrate on how to save money at home. Line drying, home cooking, hand washing dishes, thrift shopping etc. Because those will all add up to a good amount of money, it's like a job really.

If you have already done all you can to save money that way then you could babysit or clean houses. If your crafty you could make and sell some stuff but it can be hard to make money that way sometimes.

I teach aerobics classes at the YMCA. Get a decent break on a family membership and make $12 an hour keeping fit.

I work for the cable company as a sales rep. I love it. No stress, great people, and it's fun. I also get free cable and internet (350 channels, all the movie channels and very high speed internet). That alone is worth close to $200.

I am due in June and teach school, and I'm not planning on returning to the classroom next year (unpaid family leave). I've applied for an adjunct instructor position at the community college for composition classes that are Tue and Thu from 6:30-9. I figured this could bring in some extra income and DH could keep the baby while I taught.

I'm also thinking of trying to teach virtual public school. That would seriously rock if I could get a few sections of that. I could still teach but not have to manage a physical classroom full of a zillion 17 year-olds! What a dream!

What is ChaCha?

And is mystery shopping legit? How have you gotten involved in that?

And I'm curious about Associated Content, too.

I have only NOT worked one year in the last 25, however I do have some ideas.

1. After school care- if you get 2-3 kids off of the bus, supervise homework, etc until mom or dad picks them up you could probably make an easy $100 a month per child. I know some schools charge like $8.00 an hour for this.

2. During summers and holidays- The un-camp. Summer camps are super crowded, not usually well monitored, and $$$$$. Most parents will pay more than $1,000 to put one child in camp for the summer, if you count the outrageous amounts of junk food they sell to the kids. You could keep just one or two children and make decent money- especially if you find a like-minded momma who has to work. I know I would rather pay someone who would take my kids to the library, do arts and crafts, minimal to no TV, and let me bring healthy food than send my kids to any of the wharehouse camps around. (Luckily I am a teacher and don't have to use them).

I'm a visitor services manager at our local children's museum. I work 8 1/2 hours on Saturday and 6 on Sunday. I also attend 3 hours worth of meetings a week with kids in tow and I usually work one evening 3-4 hours a week when the museum is rented out. Prior to having #1 I worked full time as the operations coordinator but was able to scale back my responsibilities and hours fter my son was born 3 1/2 years ago. It's been wonderful. My family also gets a free membership, free admission to special events and kid's workshops. I really love it. My #1 was highneeds and I never took him to work with me, but my director had no problems with me bringing #2 to work for the first 6months. She was always happy in my sling. The down side is that it's difficult for me to take a weekend day off- like I worked today on mother's day. I also often miss out on parades and festivals and other fun family time that my dh does with the kids.

I've also cleaned a commerical building when my ds was 1 because we needed extra money. I set up my own company and contracted for $23/hr and worked 4 hours a week. I kind of fell into it. I was tipped off by a family member that the company they worked for was looking to replace their current company and that is what they were previously paying. I stopped doing that about 6 months later because we no longer needed the money and I hated cleaning, but it was easy and good money.

I would suggest looking for something in nonprofit. I would google to see if there is a local philanthropy website that nonprofits list job openings. If you have education or experience in a certain area that would transfer well to a particular organization or business I would suggest sending in a resume even if they're not hiring. You may even want to call and find out who would be incharge of that department and drop by to visit or call at the very least. At the chidren's museum we really like it when applicants make an extra effort and when they do, they are often hired. We've also created jobs because we wanted the skills someone had to offer.

I wish you (and everyone looking for something) the best in job hunting. I hope you're able to find a job that fits your family.

You could volunteer to get your foot in the door. When they do have an opening, you will have the advantage of already having a positive history with them. I've actually hired several of our volunteers at the museum.

Another idea is to try a casino. My mil and sil both work the evening shift in customer service at a unionized casino. They make a pretty good hourly wage. Or look at care facilities like nursing homes and hospitals. I worked a non-care job at a nursing home when I was in college.

I wish you (and everyone looking for something) the best in job hunting. I hope you're able to find a job that fits your family.
