Veg broth for babies?

My sister has a 4 mo and she read something about feeding babies organic veg broth before you start solids to help babies gut adjust to food and there not being such a problem with solids and digestion. Anyone heard of this or have any ideas about this?

TIA

While I've never heard of this, my ds loved and still loves veggie broths, and the homemade stocks I make. I am pleased that he will drink broths, as he isn't fond of many veggies right now and it's one of the ways to get them into him. (smoothies are my other line of defense! )

I still would not give anything other than mama milk to my babies until at least 6 months old. I delayed solids to more like 8 months because I wanted to make sure they had mature guts. My ds is a type one diabetic and we were advised to delay solids for this reason as well.

While I think veggie broth is a great meal for little ones, I'm a big proponent of self-feeding, so soup would be out for us until babe can hold a spoon. I think the real soft veggies from veggie soup would be great to try when the babe gets a little more experienced with chewing and they can pick them up by themselves.

We are 100% self feeders too! For broths I started them in cups because my ds could drink out of a cup really early. Around his first birthday he could bring a spoon of soup to his mouth and actually have some make it there!

We used those big spoons you get with wonton soup for him, and they are great for self feeding yogurt etc. as well!

Awesome idea with the big soup spoons! I'll have to try and find some of those.

Sounds silly to me. When their bodies are ready for food, they'll pick it up/grab it and eat it!
