28 weeks, in labour, any advice/thoughts?

Hey everyone,

My sister is in labour at 28 weeks; she just called and I don't have a lot of details other than she is 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced and they are working to slow or stop the labour. They are talking to her about the steroid shots. I am a preemie myself so I know there can be good news ahead, but I also know it's not that simple.

Any advice to share or thoughts? I am not able to get there tonight (she's across the continent) but would like to have any info available. TIA.

Hugs to you and your sister! I work at a hospital and we see lots of 28 week babies with good outcomes.

Hopefully they will be able to stop her labor. I was 3 cm and 100% effaced at 32 weeks and they were able to stop my labor. I went on bedrest at home and delivered at 36 weeks. I hope all goes well with your sister.

My water broke at 27 weeks. I was given meds. to stop contractions and steroids to help with the baby's lung development. I was on bed rest in hospital for 2 weeks because I had to get antibiotics for my ruptures membranes. Then I was on antenatal for 2 weeks at home. But we made it to 31 weeks and all is good now with my wonderful, healthy 21 month old. Tell her to get lots of rest and do nothing but shower and use the washroom. No cooking, no cleaning, no walking about the house. Tell her to start loving her TV and hopefully the baby will stay in there for a little while longer. NICU care is amazing and they can do so much for these little gifts to ensure a healthy baby. Prayers and Hugs. I'm sure everything will be fine even if baby comes a little early.
