I need help staying motivated to become debt free!

I've been in debt for as long as I can remember now and I hate it. At first I didn't make an effort to even put a dent in it and then I did and made a huge difference. Over the past couple of months though my income hasn't been that great and I've become late on most of my bills and only been able to put the min. payment on my two credit card bills (one closed and one open) and have used my cc for groceries.

I haven't worked much in the last 4 weeks. I hate the hours (5pm-12am) and am looking for a full time nanny job instead with little luck. I did find nanny work that gives me about 8 hours a week, but of course I need more then that. I might be able to ask if I can work the 5pm-9:30pm shift at the call center instead of the longer shift as well as the nanny job.

I just kinda feel stuck in this debt right now.

What are some of the things that have helped motivate you to work extra hard and just get it paid off?

These are things that worked for us, but our situation was different. I hope one helps:
* decluttered, selling off things that we didn't need. This helped us make progress on debt even when we had unexpected expenses or income drops.
* making a poster or paperchain with each $100 or $1000 of debt to be marked off when paid. Visuallizing progress really helps me!
* setting a goal for what you want life to be like post-debt. Savings? Security? Travel? Home? Family? Vacation? Make a collage or draw a picture to stick on your frige and remind yourself.

I wish I had a great answer for you, but I don't I just got peavey about the debt and attacked it.

I did some odd jobs and sold some stuff off, but most of my debt went away because I used my current income from my job to send the maximum amount I could squeeze from my budget.

Honestly, the odd jobs I did (walking neighborhood delivering flyers door to door for various companies), I got to keep that money as fun money. I bought thai food, and a book, etc. Things that I didn't put into my "normal" budget, so if I went above and beyond in earning extra income, I got to keep that as fund money.

Best of luck to you
