sleeping terribly all of a sudden... anyone else?

Thread Starter
I'm in the middle of week 38 and the last 3-4 nights I've been having little bouts of insomnia during the night. It hasn't happened at the same time each night, but usually when I have to wake up to pee I can't go back to sleep for a while.

I was feeling so much better after being anemic, but today it finally caught up with me and now I feel just as tired as I did a month ago, after feeling so much better for a couple of weeks.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? It seems like nature would make it so that I slept really well leading up to the birth so I could take care of a newborn, not the other way around! Its not like I'm having contractions during the time I'm awake, just laying there, totally tired but unable to fall back to sleep!

I know I am having a very hard time falling asleep and getting comfortable now.

I hear you. I've had some mild insomnia in the last few weeks, and lately I just wake up because I'm uncomfortable in the position I'm propped in so I give myself a little "back time" to rest my poor left hip/shoulder.
As far as what's causing it... if you find out, please let me know. I think my problem usually stems from either an overactive brain or from physical discomfort. I comfort myself thinking that maybe this is Nature's way of preparing me to wake up many times in a night, while at the same time ensuring that I don't want to stay pregnant forever because it's just uncomfortable to stay in one position long enough to, oh, get a good nights' sleep, for example.

yes, you're not alone, I've been having an awful time sleeping at night as well. I wake up constantly, can't get back to sleep, etc. And I'm exhausted by 2pm, need a nap and it just hasn't been working out, and then can't get to sleep until midnight or so. ARG! Let's hope that tonight is better for both of us.

I'm up peeing at least every 2 hours and then I'm up in between pee breaks b/c I'm so darn uncomfortable! The sleepless nights begin well before baby arrives

It's 3:33 a.m. here and I'm on the Internet - what does that tell you?

I can get to sleep a biit before midnight, then I wake up 3 hours later for a chunk of reluctant consciousness, then drift off again as it's starting to get light outside. I'm not a total wreck during the day yet, but I am bound to hit the wall soon. I feel like Peter Banning waiting to turn into Lou Ferrigno.

Up late and cant stay asleep either. Its 1 here and I have been laying in bed since 11. I decided to get up since nothing productive happened in the last two hours. And when I wake up to pee I cant get back to sleep either.

Same here....I can't fall asleep unless I stay up really late, like 12 or later. Than I toss and turn because I'm uncomfortable, than I wake up to pee, take 20-30 minutes to fall back to sleep etc. Than around 5, I finally fall into a good sleep and don't want to wake up when its time to get up with DD.

I'm just chalking it up to getting ready for that crazy new born period.

I have had some pretty crappy sleep lately though last night was actually some what decent so that was nice besides DS2 kicking me since he turned himself completely sideways and his little feet were up at chest/belly level.

I've been having some difficulties for no apparent reason--I'm actually still reasonably comfortable, so I don't think that's it. But I'll wake up at say, 6, and still be tired, but not be able to get back to sleep. It's kind of annoying.

I've got this pregnancy carpal tunnel stuff going on, and it keeps me up. If I don't keep squeezing my hands, they get really stiff. My middle fingers are numb..and whatever side I'm laying on, the arm goes to sleep. So I have to keep moving my fingers, and turn over constantly. Doesn't make for much of a restful sleep. Dr said she can give me braces to wear on my hands to hold them in a good position, but I know that there is no way I could sleep with them on. Can't even sleep with socks on..lol

3 more weeks max.

I'm in. I wake up 2-4 times a night to pee or regain circulation in various parts of my body. No amount of pillows seems to be working anymore.

Last night was better. I was still up 4-5 times to pee, due to BH contractions and a toddler who thinks that she owns the bed (same as SunCB!) but for some reason still feel way better, was able to sleep between pees and got up at 9am and the toddler was still sleeping! she got up 5 min later because the dog barked though : Hope everyone else has a better night soon too.

Not sleeping well either. The night before, I had 4 hours of sleep and they were consecutive :-(
Last night was much better: sleepy tea and DH gave me a nice back rub. It worked. Woke up to pee of course, but could go back to sleep after everytime.

It tends to be a vicious circle for me. The more tired I am, the more ctx I get. And of course I freak out, because no matter I want to have baby now, I don't want to go into labour when I am so tired.

That is the truth! I pray that when labor finally does take off its after at least some decent sleep.

Ditto! I've been getting only four hours of sleep (broken up by pee breaks at that) for the past few nights. Every time I'm laying there panicking I'll go into labor and be even more exhausted than I already am. I can't understand my sudden lack of sleep. Last night I was so tired that I was dozing off every time I blinked and still didn't sleep good! I thought for sure I'd be well rested today. :

ugh I hear everyone on this! Having to get up at 6 30 am to get my dd to school is KILLING me because I can't fall asleep til after 2 am or sometimes 3. My body is SOOO Tired but my brain is wide awake and active. I had contractions last night for about an hour and a half from 1 am to 2:30 and my only thought was "please don't let this be labor, I need some SLEEP!"

And I know it won't be any better after the baby gets here either! Course, hopefully my hips won't hurt as much as they have been and I won't have to get up and pee 3-4 times a night.

I am so glad that I'm not alone!!!! DD normally comes to our bed sometime around 2 or 3, but I've been trying to persuade her to wait till DH gets up for work b/c if I'm stuck between the two of them I know there is no way I will sleep. I switch sides all night b/c of the hip pain, and then I have to get up and pee so often that I sometimes think I should just sleep in the bathroom!

I hope tonight is better! I should just go to bed at 8 p.m. when the kids do.
