So the nurses did her labs on Tues night and discovered she has an elevated level of something having to do with her kidneys. They canceled the heart surgery yesterday. They are monitoring the kidneys and when the levels normalize (which is who knows when) then they will reschedule the surgery.

Otherwise, she opened both her eyes last night and stared at me and David for an hour! When she stares at us, she sucks on her ventilator and squeezes our fingers with her hand, its awesome and its a great sign that she knows who we are and that she hasnt lost her sucking mechanism. (or shes found it)

So more waiting....ugh! Driving me crazy!!!

ANOTHER update!!!

She was doing so well breathing, they took out the ventilator!!! AND shes doing really well breathing on her own! Her elevated kidney levels are going down and they think it was just shock (a common reason) that made her kidneys screwy.

They tentatively penciled her in for surgery next Friday!!

The attending doc said "Shes actually acting like a baby now". It was pretty touch and go at first, wondering if she was not only going to make it, but would she have problems now or later in life. Great news is, every single u/s, eeg, mri, has come up clean!!

DH got a little emotional today when he recognized a nurse form the birth, he said "Thats one of the nurses that saved Sophias life". We have come, as a couple, REALLY far from a few months ago when we were on an anti-doctor kick, figuring that they were just trying to extort money from insurance or just trying to make our lives miserable just because they thought they were better than us. KWIM? These docs and nurses have literally saved our daughters life 3 separate times in 2 weeks, I feel not only a crazy connection to all of them but a gratefulness that I cant put into words!!

Ok enough of my blubbering! Thank you guys so much for all your kind thoughts and words, its nice to know that I can read all your cheers and encouragement for her when I come on here!!!!!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!

Sophia was taken off the ventilator 3 days ago and is doing fine!!! The high kidney level is going down and her tentative surgery schedule is still tentatively scheduled! Her swelling is still there but reducing and...I got to hold her twice in the last 2 days! (and when I hold her, her vitals go through the roof on the good side)
Oh and her surgery is actually a shunt being placed into a narrow valve in her heart to make it wider. They will go through her femoral artery, not open heart. I guess its an hour or so long and very routine!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

2 weeks old, no ventilator!

Oh that is all such good news!! I am so glad Sophia is breathing well, that she gets to be held by momma, and that the surgery doesn't sound as invasive! You must be so happy, and so proud of your thriving little girl.
