Weird/silly puppy behavior

Thread Starter
Our almost 5 month old puppy has developed a new habit that's kind of weird, and I'm curious as to why he does it.

When we go out, we put him in his crate with a few of his favorite toys, mostly stuffed ones, and some nylabones. When he's let out of his crate, the first thing he does is go in and "rescue" his stuffed toys -- he gets them from the bedding, carries them in his mouth, and brings them out into the living room space. He's usually crying/whining a bit, but is also happy to see us (jumping, licking, etc.)

Anyone know what this is about?

Excitement that you are home

My 8 yr old lab/bc mix does this as well. As soon as we get home we are greeted by a very happy wiggly girl carrying one of her stuffies or one of our shoes. She does not chew our shoes, merely greets us with them.

I find it extremely endearing.

That's what my Princess does, with "bunny rabbit", and if she can't find it quick enough, she'll brin her "duckie".

yep, totally normal and I, too, find it very endearing. I don't know if they are bringing you something they love or they are so excited they have to go get their toy.
My husband will walk in the door, and I will watch my dog scurry around frantically until she finds a toy to greet him with. God forbid there isn't one nearby. it's funny!

I just trained my new pup to do this, he is a terrible jumper and claws me when he gets excited. Now he grabs his toy when he feels the urge and we play fetch until he's not so excited!
