The Doctors show, May 6 - Vaccines

I just saw a preview of tomorrow's The Doctors episode, Jenny McCarthy and others will be on to debate vaccines. I was going to post this heads up in the Vaccination forum but wasn't sure if I was allowed.

Anyway, it looks like it will get heated. I am not sure I want to watch, but might not be able to stop myself, kwim? I am kinda still swooning over Jim Carrey (and by extension, Jenny) after his awesome piece on the Huffington Post site a couple of weeks ago

Yea, got my dvr set to tape. Will be interesting since all these docs are pretty mainstream.

Though one other time I taped an episode on menopause, and this doctor was saying its a death sentence and the worst thing that can happen to a woman. THe woman doc on the show totally stood up and stood her ground that its anything but. I was shocked and glad.....

so who knows how it will go. Jenny is not one to back down. IVe seen her numerous times on LARRY KING go toe to toe with Pediatricians and AMA Board docs etc and she does NOT back down or is intimidated in ANY way!

I used to think she was an obnoxious loud mouth......but now that she has something to say, Im so glad she is who she is and that I totally agree with her!!!!!!!

What network is this? What day and time?

It's syndicated... so it really depends on where you live. I think it's produced by Harpo (think Oprah, Rachel Ray, Dr. Phil), so it might be on the same channel you see those shows. For me, it's on at 3 p.m.

So I saw parts of it, and from what I saw... the Jenny McCarthy side really came across well. They were not totally anti-vax, as one would expect. The Dr guy is like... we don't want to see those diseases come back either... but we feel that more needs to be done to figure out why we're seeing the increase in the five As (autism, auto-immune, allergies, asthma, and something else.) They also recommended that people go back to the 1989 vax schedule before vaccines because so commercialized.

I'm always afraid that the anti-vax people come across as to extreme for a lot of Americans, so they just turn them off. I don't think that's the case today.

Of course, I missed lots... so I could have missed the bad things.

I was happy overall. This was a much more balanced view than any other venue has been willing to show (SVU, Private Practice, the news, etc.)

Duh, I totally forgot to watch it! Luckily there is a later showing of it on a channel from the west coast...I will definitely be tuning in. Was hoping that Dr. Sears would at least be willing to bend a bit, but it sounds like maybe some of the other doctors were flexible as well...that is great!!

I saw that episode where they talked about menopause and was pleasantly surprised by the ob/gyn as well - usually I yell at the tv when she is talking :P

Is there some way I can watch the show because I missed it?

Synopsis and I think the debate about autism and vaccines at this link (debate links in the box on the right with Travis Stork's photo)
http://www.thedoctorstv.com/main/sho...ction=synopsis

I thought Dr. Stork was a little naive when he got all personally offended and angry at the guy from Generation Rescue. Yes, the guy (J.B. Handley) was pretty aggressive in how he addressed Stork, but I think Stork should have been prepared to handle that better than blowing up back in his face. I get his point, that antagonism is not the best approach, Handley probably could have handled it better. But I think Stork should have made himself familiar with the fact that these parents have tried and tried to get people to listen and they aren't getting any help, and therefore they get frustrated when they hear (I'm paraphrasing) "vaccines and autism have been studied intensively and it's proven there is no link"...Jenny and JB made that abundantly clear after Stork got all hot and bothered about JB coming at him "on my stage". He sounded like he was going to cry

All in all, it could have been worse. And like a PP said, it was WAY better than the recent episodes of Private Practice, Law and Order, etc.

ITA! He DID look like he was going to cry! His voice cracked when he was responding......and the doc wasnt saying YOU (him) per se, but doctors in general....it wasnt a personal attack IMHO

I thought it was a good show, and glad that Jenny emphasized LIVE tv, then the AMA is welcome to come to the debate, otherwise it DEFINETLY would have been edited to suit!

I was amazed that it went so well, this is a MAINSTREAM doc show, from the few episodes Ive seen.....

And what still gets me mad, whenever I see this discussed, is that DOCTORS DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE WHAT CAUSES AUTISM.......which means they dont know what DOESNT cause Autism. WHich, is a hard thing for a western medicine practitioner to admit.

But why do they disregard the fact that there are so many more vaccines in the schedule!?!? Its so about money, like everything in the pharmaceutical industry (and insurance). I dont know if we will ever change that fact.

and meanwhile, my dd goes unvaxed. I do worry about Rubella, and contemplate that at some point I will need to vax for that b4 18yo. Unless she gets it...... Hopefully they will have a single dose by then

Just saw that Oprah is giving Jenny her own talk show. Wonder if it will premiere this fall?
