7-8 oz gain in 2 weeks?

Is this okay?

I just got a scale today (to monitor weight as we cut back on supplements) and it weighed her at 11 lbs 8.5oz.. I weighed her at WIC 2 Wednesdays ago and she was 11lbs 11oz with all her clothes, wet diaper and cover on. I weighed a fairly soaked diaper and her clothes from today and it weighed 10oz so that's what I'm going on...

She's 4 moths old on the 17th and incredibly active... She's rolling over, scooting on her tummy, moving around the floor in circles... Her diapers are wet and her poo is yellow and sometimes seedy. She's pooing once a day or every other day...

She was gaining a lot of weight and we are on day.. 4 of lower supplement? I plan not to weigh her again until Friday... How much is an okay gain between Tuesday and Friday?

Thanks mamas!

Anyone?

I'm wondering if maybe I should add some to her supplement... Like maybe make it 3 oz instead. She is sooo active...

I'm sorry, I don't understand your question.

Are you asking if 7-8 oz in two weeks for a 4 month old is too much, or too little? Is there some reason you are concerned? It sounds like DD is happy, healthy & active.

According to Dr. Sears, 1-2 lbs monthly for the first six months is "normal." Of course, that would be more some months & weeks than others. So, 8 ounces in 2 weeks would be "normal" for the average spread over 6 months (which is pretty meaningless to me).

Two comments:

#1 Your weight gain approximation could easily be several ounces off. The scales are not necessarily exactly together, her clothes could have been different then, etc...

#3 If she is really active, that would prove to me that she IS getting enough. I would be more concerned if she was lethargic.

I was concerned about it being too little...

I did the math and it came out to be roughly 0.65 oz a day... I feel a little better after talking to couple of other mama's...

It's just that she went from gaining almost a pound a week to gaining .5 lb every 2 weeks. Good to know it's normal! I did decide to add another .5 oz into her supplement but that's more because she cries when it's gone than anything else.

Oh and she is incredibly active... She wants soo badly to crawl and it trying to pull her knees up and everything. She wants to sit up... She's going bonkers because she can only lay down!

Well, I used my scale to do a before and after weight... It's not the most sensitive (it doesn't read in quarter oz increments, just .5 oz) but I figured it would give me a close enough answer... It showed a 4 or 4.5 oz gain (there were 2 weights, off slightly by .5 oz due to movement). She had a 2.5 oz supplement. That gives her an estimated transfer of 1.5 to 2 oz of my milk.

I also dropped the overnight supplements last night... I figure if her weight stalls, I'll add those back in before I increase supplement per feed. Her diaper was plenty soaked this morning though, which is a good sign.. and she went right back to sleep after nursing (though with supplementing, she usually falls asleep while nursing, but that's okay!).

Thanks for all the insight ladies! I'm packing the scale up until next Tuesday... Then I'll have a weight from a whole week of dropped night supplements and decreased day supplements... Unless she starts showing signs of not getting enough, then I'll break it out.
