Done! I read almost straight through after getting home from work.

I loved it!! Of course, I love most of this series and I've been awaiting this book not so patiently.

I guess I won't say too much yet. Don't want to spoil...

I'm just now up to Definitely Dead, and I'm about #57 on the library queue for Dead and Gone. I am so in lust with Eric - glad to see he's still around in the latest book! I do feel a little bad for Bill, but not really. He reminds me a little bit of Edward from Twilight - tall, dark, boring, and a little bit too jealous.

Who's your favorite of Sookie's crushes?
I haven't a bought it yet but I requested it for Mama's Day!!!

I'm thrilled!

The only problem with being so excited about a new book is that it gets read too fast!!!

Eric. For sure.

I mean, I love the weres a LOT, especially since they're actually warm-blooded. Quinn, Alcide, Sam... I do like them. But Eric is HOT.

I think in the end, she'll end up with Sam. It's meant to be.

ETA and Bill was never hot, to me. Dull and jealous. And a liar. I know he didn't mean to develop feelings for her, but I don't feel bad for him.

Too true!! I read mine in record time. Less than 6 hours, not counting eating dinner and putting kiddo to bed. And now it's OVER and I want MORE Sookie!!

So, has anyone read it yet? Do you want to discuss it a bit?

So, what do you think? When Niall says at the end, "The vampire is not a bad man. He loves you." Is he talking about Bill or Eric?

I wasn't sure, but my mom is convinced he means Bill. Since he's the one that Sookie has been angry with for so long, Niall is saying, "he's not so bad."

But I still think he could mean Eric. Sookie was also upset with Eric for not coming to her rescue.

Speaking of that, I think he didn't come for reasons beyond his control. I am dying to know why. I actually predict that we'll find out next book and it will be an important part of the next story. I think something is going on with the new king...

I can't believe Claudine is dead.

I can't believe Claudine is dead either.

I've read it twice, and I come up with a different reading each time. The first time I thought Niall was talking about Eric; but rereading it, I don't know, maybe he was talking about Bill.

When she was telling Eric she wanted him to rescue her and asking him why he didn't come, and he was saying "Your killing me, your killing me." THAT"S what made me think that it was him, that he *really* loved her.

I've always thought that Bill loved her, I'm not sure why it's such a mystery, I guess is another reason I thought Niall was talking about Eric.

I have one question-did anyone else notice how 2 or 3 times, Sookie became dizzy and ill momentarily? I don't remember her doing this in response to stress and fear before, so I was wondering if it had any significance? Or am I overthinking things?

I, too, think there was an important reason why Eric couldn't come to her aide immediately; I also think Hunter will play a role in the next book.

Whatever the case, she better not f this up this time. If Eric had some reason why he couldn't come that was totally valid, and she freaks out and breaks everything off with him, I'll be mad. I still never quite understood why she broke up with Quinn, I think it was unfair and unlike her to break up with someone simply because of his other responsibilities. Like Quinn said, Eric has fangtasia, Alcide was in the heirarchy of the pack and had major pack responsibilities, Sam has Merlottes--but Sookie wouldn't have ever thought about asking them to give that up so that she could be number one in their lives. I agree with Quinn that she was unfair and it seemed kind of mean and just out of character.

I know, I cried!!! Now there's just Claude. Whoopdeedoo.:

Anyone else annoyed with Niall? I mean, seriously, 'hi, i'm your great-grandpa' to 'everyone around you & you yourself are getting hurt because of me' to 'well that was fun, but bye, never gonna see you again.' ARGH. Honestly, if he was just going to seal them off, then why wage the war to begin with????::

I REALLY want to know why Quinn went to see her. I was so angry that Bill interrupted. As for fave picks, Eric is not my top man. Nor is Bill. Bill because he lied (I feel bad for him though, he is truly in love with Sookie--oh well, sucks to be him). Eric because he's way too into doing what's 'best' for Sookie, which really means what's best for Eric. I don't see Sookie's needs/desires coming out on top with Eric.

I really liked Quinn, and thought the break-up was mean, but I understood why she did it. Quinn did have the unenviable position of HAVING to choose between his mom & Sookie. As unstable as his mom is, Sookie prolly knew a similar choice would present itself in time, and she'd be left alone.

I really like Alcide though. Mmmmmm, hot! But he turned into a jerk so fast, it left my head spinning! Why does Harris do that, make what seems to be a good guy turn into a jerk so fast (Alcide, Bill, pretty much any guy except Sam).

This book made me a little sad. Did she have to kill Claudine? A pregnant Claudine at that.

I think Nial was talking about Eric, but Sookie being Sookie will believe he meant Bill. From my memory I don't think Eric (with his restored memory) has told Sookie he loved her. I think in his absence Eric was in the process of doing something loving for Sookie and Nial knows that.

I think the next book will be about Hunter and he will be kidnapped and it is up to Sookie to save him. Throw in a breakup with Eric to go back to Bill (blech) and it is all good.

I wonder if in the long run she will be with Sam, he is the guy waiting in the wings who knows everything. At the end Sookie always goes back to Merlotte's, which is like always going back to Sam.

As for the discussion about Quinn, I think Sookie was her most confident when she was with Quinn. And maybe a little too cocky. I don't know why anyone would want to be with Bill, he has been creepy dude since day one.

Agree. Hope she doesn't go back to Bill!!

I just finished the book. Thanks to the spoilers, I paid close attention to Niall's statements throughout the book. In both From Dead To Worse and Dead and Gone, Niall repeatedly refers to Eric as "the vampire." So I'm pretty positive he meant Eric, not Bill. He almost totally ignores Bill, actually, as if he's beneath him.

I'm also so sad about Claudine, especially because she was expecting.

I feel so bad for Amelia because Tray died. I bet that will really drive a wedge between her and Sookie - that her boyfriend died saving Sookie.

I also have never really understood why she broke up with Quinn. Although it seemed like she was so disappointed in him for giving them up to the Las Vegas vamps. It wasn't like he just broke a date to go help his mom and sister. He put her and all her vampire friends in severe danger, so when it was life-or-death, he didn't choose Sookie. Not that I blame him, but Sookie obviously did.

And I still like Eric the best. He is so hot! And I agree there was something really dire keeping him from helping Sookie. He does obviously love her - I so loved the scene where he wanted to talk about their relationship, and wanted her to move in with him.

I was #140 on the waitlist when I put Dead and Gone on hold at the library. Finally got it yesterday!

I love Eric even more after this book! I think Niall was definitely referencing Eric.
I liked Quinn, but I don't miss him. His family issues would've been a recurring problem.
Too bad about Tray and Claudine. Especially Claudine. I'm going to miss her. Not going to miss Crystal, though.
I'm so sick of Sookie and this expectation she seems to have of everyone coming to her rescue and dying to save her. She's not all that. I know, I know, she's the lead and has to stay alive. She just annoys me.
Arlene is such an idiot. She and her buddies aren't nearly as interesting as dealing with the more crafty Fellowship of the Sun people. I want more organized Fellowship action and vampire retribution! Especially the retribution! Gimme some blood!
The shifters are out of the closet! I can't wait to see how this complicates things.
Bye bye silly fairies. That whole storyline bored me.

I didn't get as into this book as I have many of the others. It just didn't capture me the same way. Some of it felt really forced. Some of it lacked too much detail. Most of the characters seemed less interesting than usual. It kinda felt like Harris had a list of things to do in the book, and ticked them off, one by one, without enough story or feeling for each. Maybe I'm too spoiled by the show.

I've heard similar complaints. Most people I know just weren't "feeling" the fairy story line in this book. Hopefully the next one will get back to vamp/shifter basics!

I think she did the right thing. She was always going to come in as his fourth priority (his mom and sister, and his job would come before her), and she wanted someone who didn't have other things/people that were more important than her. Who would want someone who would stop calling for weeks at a time with no explanation?

You're right. And if I remember correctly, that was soon after she found out about Bill's treachery. So I'm sure she wasn't in the mood to cut him any slack. And hey, I'm a huge Eric fan, so why am I even making arguments for Quinn anyway?

My mom told me last night that sometimes Sookie reminds her of me. The "I'm sorry they were so stupid they got themselves killed" attitude. Even though I'm pretty sure that was a dig, I'm glad I got her hooked on these books so we can discuss them.

I am going to bump this old tread up because I just finished this book. I had not even started the series at the time.

I am so sad that there are no more Sookie Stackhouse books to read! I've been reading them all summer and have been enjoying being in Sookie's World. I must say "Dead and gone" is not my favourite.I liked book #3,#4,and #5 the best. . I feel like Harris was writing “Dead and Gone” in a rush and did not think everything out well.

I hope Sookie does not stay with Eric. I don't like this blood bond and think on the long run he is not good for her. Although I think she is better off with a shape shifter, I actually prefer Bill to Eric. I was really hoping it would work with Quinn. Too bad! Also too bad about Alcide. I think Sam is the best for her.

I hope a new book comes out soon!
Do any of you have any recommendations what to read now?
I like what I guess is termed “urban fantasy”, paranormal things that happen in the real world. The Sookie Stackhouse series is my limit for violence. I can't take any more than that. Thanks!
