We have been using Frontline Plus on Colby, but have found fleas on him before it was time to apply again.

Is K9Advanitx better?? It is more $$, so do you think it is worth it???

Thanks for any advice!

I don't think that one is really better than the other. We use revolution (it covers fleas, ticks, and heartworm) but when it gets really dry here it doesn't matter what we use we still get ticks. 1800 Pet meds is really convenient and you save a bit too.

Try Comfortis. It's the new 'flea pill'. It eliminates user error with the topical applicators and it kills at a higher efficacy. Plus you can bathe them with no worries. We've been seeing some resistance to Frontline here in the south. You can use Frontline every 2-3 weeks if needed but it gets expensive. Advantix has some toxicity associated with it so be very careful the kiddos don't get thier hands in it. HTH!

K9 Advantix has some toxicity, yes - Permethrin: 44.0%!!! - I don't use it because of that.

Frontline works great, and also kills ticks, but when we had a really bad infestation we would find some live fleas. You can tell that they are disoriented and sick though, they're easy to catch, don't hop when you try to catch them, sometimes walk in circles, etc. You can also dose it more frequently if you're having problems. I'm really not sure if there are any safety differences in Frontline vs. Frontline Plus. I've always used the "plus" because it's usually what's easiest to find in stock. It is my understand that Fipronil is considered very safe, and the "plus" is (S)-methoprene which is just an insect growth regulator and shouldn't hurt us mammals.

I really like the plain Advantage, and it works better than Frontline for cats. It does NOT kill ticks though, but ticks are not a problem for our cats and only occasionally for our dog. Plain Advantage is cheaper than Frontline Plus, although not much. We tried Frontline on our cats and it was a disaster. We're Advantage ONLY for cats, I really am opnionated that it DOES work better for cats and my vet agrees.

I'm not comfortable with Comfortis.
You can read about it Here.
"Phospholipidosis (vacuolation) of the lymphoid tissue was seen in all dogs treated with COMFORTIS chewable tablets, the long-term effects of which are unknown." concerns me. It seems like a lot is not known about it. I heard a vet recommend it, but she cautioned that most of her patients vomit it back up. Maybe their body is trying to say something about putting poisons in it??

The only time we had a major flea infestation, it was due to the neighbor's moving out and all their leftover flea eggs hatched and came over to our yard. I dusted everybody with Seven dust before I got it back under control. The rest of the time I usually only dose Frontline about every 2 months, and the few ticks I find after visits to the woods are always dead. I have to dose the cats with Advantage a little more often, I think due to the fact that they slowly lick it off in their grooming habits.
