Elimination diet recipes?

Thread Starter
The doctor has put my 7 y.o. on an elimination diet that excludes:

-dairy
-soy
-egg
-corn
-gluten
-nuts

I'm running out of ideas on easy/cheap & kid friendly recipes . . . any tips or ideas?

Thanks....

You will probably get more responses if you post over in the allergy forum. There is also a recipe sticky there and some of the regular posters over there have blogs with recipes. Good luck!

curried chickpeas
hot buckwheat cereal
puffed millet cereal
coconut milk yogurt
buckwheat waffles/pancakes
millet pancakes

Healthy Deli bologna (make sure they slice on a clean slicer at the deli)
Thumann's turkey and roast beef are safe as well
black olives
baked beans

vegetables & fruits

baked sweet potato fries
deep fried sweet potato or carrot chips
So Delicious coconut milk ice cream (coconut, chocolate, and vanilla I believe are safe for those restrictions)
chicken marsala
maple cream cookies
roast chicken, gravy and rice
roasted vegetables
scalloped potatoes
beef burgundy
pot roast and gravy
chicken mirabella
curried chicken and rice
curried chicken on grill
baked or poached salmon
I'm sure there's more...

Ah, I've been away from the forum so long, it's grown to be rather confusing, especially the subforums that I have never regularly posted in I'll look for the allergy forum....

hot buckwheat cereal
tried it, she hated it, sticking with gluton free oats

puffed millet cereal
she hated that, too, but likes puffed rice

Quote:
coconut milk yogurt
this she likes & we always have on hand

hmmm, maybe, worth a try, although I hope there are eggless, dairy free recipes to follow....

Safe? My understanding is that only processed meats might be problematic -- we've been enjoying regular chicken & local beef

black olives
baked beans
yes, 2 of her favorites

Quote:
vegetables & fruits
yes, if nothing else we always have fruits & veggies

I have the worst knives set ever, can't slice through the harder roots besides, she also hates cooked carrots, so we stick with munchable baby carrots with hummus & guac

I usually resort to chilli over baked potato

Yes, yes, I've read all the icecream alternatives & she likes all the ones she can eat, but they're $6-8 here for a pint :

chicken marsala
she hated it last time grandma made it (sigh)

Quote:
maple cream cookies
recipe? We usually just do avacado-carob fudge, zuchinni cookies, coconut cake

Quote:
roast chicken, gravy and rice
roasted vegetables
scalloped potatoes
yes, yes, they're old news, she's tired of 'em

Quote:
beef burgundy
pot roast and gravy
chicken mirabella
I'm pretty sure she refused to eat more than a couple bites of these when grandma made them before . . . also, she is not at all a fan of fish for food....

Meatballs and gluten-free pasta
hot dogs or hamburgers without buns, with potatoes on the side
chicken nuggets or fish sticks- pre-purchased GF ones, or home made using potato flakes as breading (potato latke mix is tasty and easy to use!)

Basically, I'd focus on simple meals- a meat prepared the way your child likes it, potatoes or a GF grain, and some kind of vegetable.

That must be so tough. Soups are easy and can be made from just veggies and some gluten free pasta like a minestrone. Carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash and veggies make nice blended soups.

Don't know if she would like this but yesterday I just put some coconut milk and some frozen mixed berries (straight out of the freezer) into the food processor and whizzed them until combined. The result was exactly like ice cream...very yummy. Imagine you could do it with any frozen fruit and you could also add a sweetener if wanted/allowed, although I didn't think it needed it.

Store bought ice cream is so expensive -- and doesn't taste as good as homemade anyway. I use coconut milk as the base for most of my ice creams -- it work's awesome--just as rich as dairy ice cream!

All the recipes I mentioned are on my blog (and more).
For deli meats, there are none of the top 8 (plus corn) in the deli meats I mentioned. I've contacted the manufacturers on those.
Just keep in mind, that many people who are gluten free, can not tolerate oats, even the gluten free kind (though if you've tested her on them and she's fine, then by all means, go ahead).

I bought some rice noodles (the only GF pasta I could find) & the texture was really odd, bouncy/stretchy. Kinda grossed us both out Someone locally suggested I make our own noodles. Ha! Um, no, not happening, sorry. When I'm not home, I'm in class & when I am home, I'm multitasking the house chores with a textbook in hand. I'm not up for the totally from scratch methods.

We have been sticking with a simple local beef or chicken option (I seriously gag everytime I have to handle raw meat, though) with fresh veggies & rice or rice stirfry. My kid will eat cooked veggies for a few other people, but really prefers them crunchy. The problem is she's not interested in trying new veggies & I'm not interested in wasting $ on food that ends up right in the compost, sigh.

Potato flakes! Hadn't thought of that

Yep, I've been doing a lot of soups. Trouble is they all end up tasting the same after a while. Last month I got fed up & mixed soup with chilli. It was too weird for me, but, who would've thought, she loved it.

I do love that idea, Linz! Maybe maybe maybe Grandma will buy us a food processor?

Here's the thing, the only reactions I know for sure are behavioral & with that there could be countless other issues causing a meltdown. I think she might have had a mild anaphylactic reaction to pretzels she once snuck, but don't know for sure. I'm also not feeling the love for our doctor who wants to wait to do allergy testing until after the full behavioral/academic evaluation : Not to mention the doctor is the one who in one sentance says to eliminate gluten & in the next tells me to feed her oatmeal every morning. So, big thank you for pointing that out. Someone else also sent me links to some more comprehensive lists of foods that contain gluten (whew)

People seem to like the Tinkyada rice pasta (we do Trader Joe's version). Some of the other rice pastas are very gummy and/or slimy. Rinse after cooking too (that helps). There's also buckwheat noodles (hard to find) and sweet potato noodles at the Asian market (pretty slimy but DS loves them).

A lot of my DS's issues are behavioral as well and we've had varying luck with doctors, so I understand the frustration factor, believe me. I'm always experimenting, trying to come up with new combinations of the food we can eat. My DS seems to be getting more picky with regards to food, and he's got the most restrictive list, so finding new things is top on my list. I don't make my own noodles either, though I do make coconut milk yogurt. I was making sauerkraut too but the Bubbies is better so I gave up!

Are you doing the healing things like probiotics, fermented foods, bone broth? So that you're healing the leaky gut, as well as avoiding the trigger foods?
