Felt appliques - anyone done them?

I noticed many of the appliques on my dd's clothes are felt. I thought this would be an easy material to use as appliques for my first times. I picked some up from Walmart this morning and the fabric lady snuck me a sample of fusible interfacing, but I really don't see why I'd need to use it with felt since it's not slippery. Anyone done this before and can guide me in the process? I've never done an applique...

TIA

I would use the fusible web. I use felt to applique and it isn't slippery but it sure can move! You would be surprised even when you pin how much felt moves around.

Thanks! So I put the fusible web between the applique and fabric and use the iron, right? Do you use a satin stitch around the applique or use just a decorative straight stitch since felt doesn't unravel?

Yep, right between the two pieces and make sure you iron both sides. I use a satin stitch because it looks nicer but I don't think a straight stitch would be a problem.

I use felt a lot to applique and leave the edges free, so they can "float" and move on the base fabric. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it's an interesting effect and it's fun to do.

I'm not sure I understand...

So do you straight stitch around the applique or just use a fusible web and not stitch at all?

TIA,

I'll post a photo later -- but basically I just lay the felt down and then sew anywhere on it. So parts flop, parts are sewed down etc. It's very 3D, but funky. I 'll post a photo of a skirt I did for myself with flowers growing all over it.

Okay this is not the best photo, but I made a quick homepage on AOL, so bear with me....
