OK I'm at a loss now...Stink again!!

So I use BG 3.0 and happy heinys OS. I had developed a stink issue a few weeks ago and figured it was because i was using Tide Free. So, I stripped with Dawn and had great smell free diapers again. I switched to using Charlie's detergent and now my diapers stink again. I wash every 2-3 days.
-Cold wash with 1 scoop of charlie's
-Hot wash with one scop of charlie's
-Extra cold rinse

Should I use less soap? Vinegar? I'm at a loss now.

Definitely use less soap. Here's what I do and it seems to work pretty well. Cold wash, no soap. Baking soda in the wash and vinegar rinse. Warm wash with one scoop of charlies and warm rinse, and then a second warm rinse. IMO cold water rinses don't do a very good job at getting the soap out. I also add one scoop of bio-kleen oxygen plus to the main warm wash cycle, it has grapefruit seed extract in it and I think it might help with bacteria build up. HTH, GL stinkies can be such a pain.

What kind of inserts are you using? Maybe wash the dipes and inserts seperately to figure out where the stink is coming from. I always had trouble with microfiber inserts causing stink.

I was having stink issues- my new washing routine is to hot wash with soap (I just switched to using Arm and Hammer brand this week too) and then another hot wash with no soap. I can't tell that skipping the cold prewash is leaving any stains, and I figure it uses the same amount of water as doing a prewash, regular wash, and extra rinse.

Your routine sounds like too much soap to me.

I'm using Microfiber inserts and that is definitely where most of the stink is from. My pocket covers really don't smell it's just the inserts. I will try less soap and see what happens. I suppose i should strip them too right. I was thinking about trying calgon. I don't know if my water is hard or not....

Did you happen to "strip" your machine when you switched to Charlie's? Because it's so good at removing buildup, it's possible that it found all the buildup in your machine and deposited it back on your dipes. Just a thought, and you might have that covered already. Don't give up on the charlies yet. This can also be a problem if you are using Charlie's for diapers and something else for your other laundry. I think.

After a few washes, your machine should be clean, but they do say to start with a load or two of rags or towels or something to get your machine cleaned out. If you think your machine is ok, you might just have to strip your dipes one more time.

And I agree with the post that cold rinses don't do much. ONly use one scoop of charlies and use a hot rinse at the end. hth!

Try adding 4-6 drops of TTO or GSE to your wash. Or if you're not against it, wash the inserts separately with a capful of bleach every once in a while.

I ended up switching over to hemp inserts because the microfiber was just impossible to keep stink free. I hope you have better luck than I did.
