"...the consensus is that yearly flu shots, particularly when started as a child, leaves the body better equipped to fight the flu in general..."

Thoughts?

I love this part:

Yearly shots strengthen the immune system
This article is ridiculous. There is no scientific evidence to support what he is claiming (getting your flu shot every year will make your immune system stronger. As for mutating viruses...yes i think vaccination can cause the flu to mutate. It already mutates, but with mass vaccination, I believe that further mutations will continue to occur. You can't screw with mother nature like that and think there will be no concequences. To think so is the height of arrogance IMO.

My mom gets the flu shot every year, and has for over 15 years. She has the worst asthma of anyone I know, she has terrible allergies, she gets quite ill 2-3 times/year, has no energy, and a ton of other health issues. Good thing she's getting her yearly flu vax to keep her immune system stronger... I guess she'd really be a mess if she wasn't!

Somebody suggested this on NPR yesterday, that those with many years of annual flu shots would be better off--I think the truth is, no one knows. They're just talking. (And, this sort of talking might sell the regular flu shot.)

I know that when I mentioned to our pediatrician that DS and DD had the flu in 2008, and won't that be protective, she said no, strains change all the time. And that was with regards to natural immunity. (DS and DD did in fact get a different type of flu this year.) Anyway, so why would the flu shot confer any immunity from year to year? If it's true, why do we "need" to get the flu shot every year? The argument makes no sense.

I don't believe it. If I thought the flu shot helped my body in any way whatsoever, I'd consider it. I see it as nothing but harmful. I never had a flu shot, never plan to. Anyone see the graph on the webinar recently? I Thought that was rather interesting. IT showed how deaths from flu/pneumonia were actually going UP after intro of vaccine, not down. I googled it and think this is the one (or similar one) - someone else might have a better link, but this is what I Meant:

"Yearly shots strengthen the immune system, providing at least a slight edge against new strains, because your body might recognize parts of that new strain."

Oh give me a freaking break.
