clothes to work with CDs?

So, I am having baby #2, and will be cloth diapering for the first time.

As I look at clothes to pick up for this little one, I am wondering if the cloth diapers will affect the fit or nature of clothes the baby will be able to wear.

Any tips, info?

Thanks!

sometimes cloth will affect fit, depending on what diapering system youre using. i bought a bunch of hanna andersson wiggle pants when they were on sale for 5$ each, and they will fit even the bulkiest diaper underneath. i love them. when i was cding dd1, she wore tons of gymbo leggings. i hear gymbo in general is good with cloth. im finding that onesies are not good with cds- or ill have to size up to get a better fit and prevent wicking. most of the things i've gotten from people though are working out ok.

Yep, I think gymbo is the best for cloth!

I like onesies and babylegs.

But shirts, diaper and babylegs work great too.

May daughter wears lots of dresses.

Very few pants and definitely not jeans.

Yhe only thing that doesn't work for us is jeans and sometimes onesies. Roomy, stretchy pants are usually fine, and non stretchy pants are okay too as long as they are not fitted. Overalls have lots of room.
I have had good luck with basic seperates from babysoy, hanna andersson, sears, and whatever we've found. I find it helps to look at the actual item rather than go by size, my son wears things that range from size 12 months to 2t.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and advice! Glad to know most things work, and I'll be a bit wary of onesies and certainly jeans/nonstretchy pants.

Thanks again!

Any other tips or experiences, please feel free to share more!

I'm not sure what their clothes are like in the States, but H&M (in Europe) children's clothes seem to be made for cloth diapered bums. They are cut very wide at the hips (most pants have adjustable waists) and there is a lot of extra room in the bum area for a diaper.

Again, I haven't been to an H&M in America to look at their children's clothes, but it might be worth looking into if there is one near you.

I second (or third?) Hanna Andersson and Gymboree as being nice and roomy. With onsies of other brands, I either size up or use those nifty onsie extenders. I find that we can get by with most elastic waist bottoms. You may have to size up on some brands. Flat front pants generally won't work as far as I've experienced. Also, I love rompers and overalls - roomy and comfy for baby!

I've had good luck with Carters onesies because they're longer. I have no issue with jeans either in pocket diapers, but they don't work with prefolds for me.

Pumpkin patch clothes seem to be be cut big and they work too. I've also gotten stuff at Kohl's that runs big and works, I believe the brands were Sonoma and Jumping Beans.

I have been using American Apparel shirts and karate pants and love how they fit over the diapers. My DD fit into the size 3-6 month stuff right away, and has been living in them.

We have also been using fitteds and wool, letting the wool double as clothing.

Wool longies make great pants! And shorties, too!
