Those stretchy Y shaped things (snappi)

We are expecting a boy and to CD him but I'm not sure that those snappi things are very apropriate for a boy's anatomy since they appear to snug the genital area of the diaper down against him. I worry if this is possibly uncomfortable or could cause the penis to bind and pinch in there? I already learned that the penis should not be pinched or folded cause the urethra will get pinched as well. Urine resistance from this I would think. Can any concurr? Or am I too analytical here? Do these work fine for girls? I do prefer using snaps or velcro so far with what we've read about CDing.

I use a snappi with my son and have never had any trouble. It really just grabs and lifts the top layer of fabric. It's only been a couple of times on thinner diapers that I worried about it, but I watched him closely and even then he never has seemed uncomfortable.

Really depends on what diapers you choose as to whether you need one at all...each type of closure has it's own pluses and minuses.

Good luck with the cd'ing. We love it and I bet you will, too!

I've used snappis on my son and have no concerns. It really does not make the diaper that tight, and it's more bringing the sides together, not applying pressure to the penis.

Snappi's work fine for girl or boy.

I don't use snappi because it's just an extra step.

They don't apply pressure in that area so you should be fine

I appreciate this input. It seems to concern me less now. But can you alter the exact position too that the snappi is placed just to be more sure that it won't irritate whats under the dipe?

Yes, you can place the lower part of the Y either to the left, right or you can go without actually tightening it at all, just pulling in the sides. That works fine too. I have actually never even thought about that until just now. DS has been in cloth diapers with snappies for 2+ years and he's never complained about pain.

i have found that if I am expecting a massive poop explosion (ie evenings when he cluster feeds and poops like a crazy man) It keeps things a little more snug around his bird legs and keeps the poo off the covers, because washing covers is an extra step

I've never been concerned about his penis being squished.

We actually have cut the bottom leg off most of our snappis, and they work just fine even without the bottom leg. You could also just leave that part unfastened. Or you could fold the diaper to be higher-cut and put the snappi higher on his abdomen where it will be above the penis.

Thanks for these helpful hints, it really seems confusing to be a first time parent and digging for answers to all the ?'s we have. Cloth diapering is one of the ways to save money but we don't want to start cd-ing as ignorant experimentalists. You've helped us so far.
