Strawberry jam!

Maybe this is lame, but I just made a small batch of homemade strawberry jam and I am proud of myself! I know it's super easy, but I have never done it before and am so glad that I did it and am ready to do more! I think I might be giving this as a christmas gift in the baskets! Sorry I just am sharing my excitement

Oh I totally agree! I made a bunch of different jams & jellies last fall and gave them as xmas presents, and everyone was thrilled! I've actually had to make more a month or so ago, as I ran out!! But, lucky for me, I still had/have lots of frozen fruits to mess with

Your enthusiasm is inspiring!!!! I recently started making more of my own foods rather than purchasing them off the shelves. I am going to have to try and make my own jams now!! I may come to you if I have questions

Awesome! You're hooked now <wicked laugh>!

Canning season has just started and I've already put up 51 half-pints of strawberry jam and 11 half-pints of blackberry jam. :

Fun, isn't it?? And seeing all of your own hard work lining your pantry shelves is empowering!

I just made another batch of grape jelly this afternoon. I only make one batch at a time, and otherwise just freeze fruit whole (strawberries/blackberries) or can the juice (grapes)... Though I'm thinking I might just have to try making grape jam this summer, assuming we get some grapes... our grape vines appear to have somehow gotten frosted In 20+ years its never happend before, so I don't know what happend, but all the leaves are dead except for a couple new shoots :sniffle:

Wow. Where do you live where you have blackberries already? Strawberries won't be ready here until mid-June. I'm hoping I'll be recovered enough from childbirth to be able to put up some jam. Homemade strawberry jam is so awesome!

I know how addictive it is. I picked some blackberries on a camping trip summer before last. It was just enough for a batch, but I was still scared of canning, so I made freezer jam. Yum! So last year I made jam from everything that was free or about to go bad. I made plum (from italian prune-plums), apricot (from an abandoned apricot tree), Pear, and blackberry. I only made about 4 of the plum because I wasn't sure it would be good, but that was the best kind! I had to re-cook it (too runny), so I made it into freezer jam. For some reason, I don't get into it much.

I still have alot, and will probably make more this year. I think people are getting plum and apricot jam for christmas this year. Something happened with my pectin, and nothing set right. But I found I really like it that way. Doesn't hurt the sandwiches and I kinda like being able to pour it onto the bread for pb sandwiches. I'm going to forgo the pectin this year and just cook it down more.

We're in the midwest. My mom just brought them and asked me to make jam for her. I don't know where she got them. She's the only one that eats blackberry jam (she like them with seeds which I guess she says is hard to find?) and I think she had about a quart or so of them.
