I am very excited about my chart

I have made a chart to record all of our work. I don't believe in having a schedule because we are very relaxed and do different things each day. I never thought of recording what we have already done though.
The chart has Monday-Sunday at the top and 10 subjects along the left side. I now type in what we do in those subjects each day. I can now see what subjects we miss and what we could do more of.
I feel so much more organized!

That is the way I teach too. I use a lesson plan book. I usually jot the briefest of notes as to what I want to cover each day, and then fill in the book with what we actually did. Even when I worked at a school that wanted me to periodically submit my lesson plans, that's how I did it!

I made one, too. lol I fill it in with what I want to do a few days in advance, then what we actually did do when the day is over. DD's only five (well, next week she will be) so this is just "practice" for the fall, but we're having a lot of fun with our theme of the week, and having a form to fill out helps me plan ahead and remember to get books from the library, find appropriate ones we already have, plan outings and all that fun stuff.

I think I need to do this, as most of the time it feel like we never get anything accomplished.

I love charts. Seriously, a good chart makes my whole homeschool week. *is odd*

Funny, that's exactly what I do too.

:::

I do need a plan to work from -- or will --

but i "plan" to have two identical charts -- one for brainstorming out the next week ...not set in storne, but ideads .... and one for recording what we did.

I already journal for Theo things he does and learns ...

Can anyone show me an example of one of these charts?

Here is the link to the chart. We just type in what we did that day in each subject. Fairly simple here. If I don't keep it simple I won't keep it up.

Hmm maybe I need to start charting, I always feel we do not do enough so maybe this way I can see what we are doing a lot of and what we are doing not much of, do you all use created charts in Word or some other doc or do you use a teacher lesson plan type book that you hand write in

I just made an Excel spreadsheet with large cells. I wanted it to be big enough to write in, in case I decide to print it out, so I didn't include every possible variation of every topic (for instance, I have a generic "social studies" column for history, geography and so on) but I'm happy with it.

The planner that I use has downloadable charts. I printed enough last August to get us through the school year. I have a daily square for FIAR, Math, Reading and Writing, Nature, and two extra squares. We always use one extra for violin. This system has worked well for me. It has just enough structure and flexibility.

I also love the attendence chart. One sheet of paper with a 180 square grid. And a line at the bottom for a parent's signature.

: I am JUST as bad! I had about 3hours sleep last night (ds 3 napped late and there went the whole night.. and dh has issues with door closing skills at 430am it appears and had little brain power for much more than feeding small boys and letting them run. So while they played with legos, I just spent like an hour filling in my 'what i'd like to do grid' for next week & rearranging stuff hehehe.

I was thinking about making a chart, too. I'd like to keep track of what subjects we do, so I don't forget something.

I really like the chart! Another thing with us is we don't "do school" every day (preschool level) - we have learning opportunities, but what I would want to record we don't do every day. Some times we take a day, a week or more off depending on the rest of our life. A chart like that could be modified to just say Day 1, Day 2, etc. Better than the lesson plan book where I end up scratching out dates all the time (a little thing, but it irritates me ).

Great idea! I searched for a chart I liked forever, but couldn't find anything so simple as that. Now I just hung up a large desk calendar and fill in what we do as we go. It works for now, but seeing that chart.... hmmmm...
I LOVE charts also!

theo is preschool but he learns sooo much -- like the first day he drew a F -- or the first day he told me T = Theodore :

I keep and journal for him.

I bought a 2nd weekly day-timer (like i carry and use costantly) and it is Theo's education journal ... I will get one for CAP soon. and I just make notes on the days of what cool things he did. i also note days we learn new ASL (I try to get in 4 new ones a week, i want to do a new on a day but i fail) ...

it is be a nice thing to look back on when he is older -- like a baby book.

for what it is worth -- i avoid big wall things -- they don't store well adn they do not travle well. Sis started out with poster board planners when she started HS adn quickly went to something more binder sized -- for storage, keeping year after year, and for potablity (taking to grandma's etc).
