I LOVE my new DOGGIE!!!

He is the BEST! Our first dog. His name is Scrappy, and we adopted him 2 weeks ago from a rat terrier rescue group. We affectionatly call him "Scraptastic" now sometimes.

The only couple of things are that he sometimes poops in the house. (Despite the fact that the door is open almost all day - and remind him by tossing him out there every 2 hours or so...

and we cant figure out how to get him to play. Like ball or frisbee or chase or something? We really want to play with him!

Oh and he does growl sometimes at the kids but dude, I would if I were him too. They are pretty overwhelming sometimes at ages 5,3, and 1. The second day he snapped at my 5 yr old who was trying to make the dog lick his face and my 5 yr old was broken hearted that his new "best friend" didnt like him anymore.

So a few challenges but mostly a hugely successful adoption story to report!!!!

He made my heart grow bigger. :

Hey, nobody wished you congratulations?

Well, congratulations on your new dog! Sounds like there are some training issues to work out, but otherwise it sounds like it's going well! Any pictures?

Yeah, I am tivo'ing the Dog Whisperer at my moms house because I have no clue how to get him to not poop in the house. Its really weird to me. (Because he has complete access to outside all the time.)

Did I mention he eats his poop. Alot. Yuck. I found this article but its really not helpful. Gross.

You might try putting him on a leash and walking him around until he makes his poop. Then make a big deal about how great he is and give him a treat. When he poops inside just clean it up. Unless you catch him in the act he won't understand why you are upset.

Some dogs don't play ball. All dogs like it if you throw dog treats like small Milk Bones and they run and eat them.
