Ideas for the active learner?

Is there a list anywhere that breaks down specific activities for math, phonics, etc. for the active learner. Or a book that might help. I think my dd needs more active learning to really learn. But I don't want to just play bouncing games where we count - we need to learn number recognition as well. And I'd like some ideas that would work for a very early beginning reader with blending and cvc words.

I've been doing some file folder games, chalkboard work, other games, computer stuff, building letters/numbers with playdough, lots of manipulatives. But I'm thinking I'm missing something. Perhaps outdoor type stuff that will help my active child learn the things she is working on.

have you tried something as simply as standing up, and being able to move like that, while working? My DN does much better at "table work" when standing at a counter so he can rock on the balls of his feet ... or at a tall stoll so he can swing his legs.

It doesn't have to be really "differnt" school work as long as it is presented in a way that allows himt o move around.

I have praticed math facts with him marching up and down the front walk, Bible verses while walking shapes on the patio and so on ...

Just a thought.

Great idea Aimee - she does work better when standing up, but I hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it. She can't seem to sit still for long. She enjoys her work, but needs to be moving constantly.
