Did anyone see the Oprah "Motherood" show?

It was a couple weeks ago, but I've been thinking about it ever since. Oprah pegged it as a real-mom, no-judgement show...but OMG I've been judgemental about it ever since. I couldn't even watch the whole thing (I have it taped), and I've still got 15 minutes to go...but here's what made me so mad...

1) the "behind the scenes" footage of the celebrity "mom" they described as a "real" mom- at her daughter's 5th birthday party...complete with a lizard petting zoo, completely catered, and oh, the nanny was there to help out.

2) The web-cam, mommy-diary style confessions- Some of these women admitted to some seriously "really?!?!" type things! One woman said she'd let her twins go 3 weeks without a bath! THREE WEEKS?!?! REALLY????

3) the constant complaining from these women on how their lives are so different (as in bad) than they thought motherhood was going to be- their single/childless friends no longer have time for them, they can't just "stop by" anywhere after work, they have to go straight home and take care of the kids, they just don't get any time for themselves anymore, it's so hard to be a mom, etc etc. As if kids have seriously inconvienced their lives.

I wonder where they found these women. Seriously! Is this how the majority of American moms think? I know there are women out there who do...but the majority of the women I associate with and know are not like this. Am I just ignorant? Did anyone else see this show and get irritated too?

Well NO FREAKING DUH you can't just do what you want anymore, what the HECK were they thinking?! Did they think babies are just little ragdolls or puppies that can be trained into a schedule?! What...ARGH!!!

I've said this before, but it's a good thing we don't get any channels on our TV (it's just for the Wii) because my blood pressure would be through the roof.

Uh it's Oprah, nuff said.

Yeah there are a lot of mom's who do feel inconvenienced by kids, I have a friend who complains all. the. time. that she never has time for herself. I have no idea what she thought having kids was supposed to be like. I just constantly wonder what she was thinking.

I saw it. Honestly as a homeschooling mom of 3 with #4 on the way with no family support, no babysitters, nuthin'!, I was totally taken aback how 6 hours while the kids are at school was simply not enough time for them! DH and I have had probably 50 hours alone since having kids 7 years ago. We would kill for an hour or two out by ourselves and the first time we were ready to have a babysitter come, we ended up having a huge natural disaster type storm and we figured someone was trying to tell us something.

I found the women unrealistic (yeah, we saw the nanny helping get ready for the party- imagine how much work that is having someone watch your child while you get things ready- I mean come on I've gotten bikini waxes with a toddler on my stomach, I've been in the gyn's stirrups with all of my kids in tow, if I have to go to the doc's to pee in a cup, I've got an audience

I found it to be completely in line with today's view that kids are an accessory of sorts and are supposed to make YOU happy. An outlook that totally goes against my own...

Funny, I can't wait to get home to be with my kid! And three weeks without a bath?! Sounds stinky, how old were the twins?

i know i read some mom blogs and some of those moms were talking about being on this show, but i work so i don't see oprah and it is never something i would dvr. haha. i dont know if any of them were on, but in general i respect those blogger mom's.

sigh though. it is oprah. can't expect much at all.

my mom said to me that some women are just not ready to give themselves up for their children, and she feels, that is what it takes. i tend to agree.
not that there will never be my own time or anything, but i have always wanted to be a mother and i see that as my child coming first. including, uhm, bathing at least weekly

Moved to Television. There's already a thread here so I'm closing this one.
