I must not be smart enough to use a sling

Because my baby hates it.
All he does is scream even when he's so tired he should by all rights pass out. I have followed the instructions on putting it on and tried all different kinds of ways to put him in.

I have tried when he wasn't so tired and when he was not hungry.

I feel like my torso is too short or the sling would have to be down around my waist instead of higher up (where I read it is supposed to be).

He seems smashed no matter what I try.

I don't know anyone who uses one and have no friends who ever have.

It's an unpadded ring sling... by Sleeping Baby.

Any ideas as to what I am getting wrong? Do some babies just hate them forever?

Did I try to use it too late (he's 4.5 weeks already...gosh time flies)?

Thank you....

Have you emailed Jan at Sleeping Baby for help?

Also, what kind of positions are you trying him in? If you're trying cradle hold, try a tummy to tummy instead. I find many babies don't dig the cradle hold.

www.zolowear.com has great videos that should help you figure out how to use your sling.

Don't give up! It's way early days yet.

Can you post some pictures? It might help.

Have you tried getting him on & going for walk? Ds is sometimes less than impressed at being worn. Today I had to do some serious bouncing & swaying to calm him down. Then he went to sleep.

Don't beat yourself up. There is a learning curve. Here are my tips.

1. Practice with a happy, fed, dry baby. If he's already tired and you're fiddling around with trying to get the sling right then the babe will just get cranky.

2. Move, move, move. Walk, bounce, sway.

3. Watch the zolowear videos several times.

4.once you get the baby in, look at yourself in the mirror and compare your positioning to the videos.

5. you can even take pics and post them and we can give pointers.

6. if it doesn't work this month, try again next month.

The Tummy to Tummy was my favorite carry when dd was that age. She seemed to hate all attempts at cradle carries.

I agree with the PPs--it's not too late. Even if it doesn't work out for you for a while, he may like it later. When I was a nanny, one little guy loved being in the sling while I vacuumed, even though I don't think he was really ever in it except with me and I didn't meet him until he was 4 months old.

Keep with it. Eventually it should help both of you--he can be held and you can have your hands free.

Try one of these: http://www.wearyourbaby.com/Default.aspx?tabid=121

It made me feel like I was still pregnant. :

My baby HATED the sling. My sister used one and her son loved it, I had her help, so it wasn't human error. My dd just didn;t like it. I got a Mei Tai as soon as she could hold her head up.: She LOVES it, later we got a wrap and she loves it as well. Don't give up!:

My babies hated slings. DS loved wraps and ABC's. DD only took to ABC's from birth onwards (High Tibetan carry etc.) Now that they're toddlers the sling is getting new life, although I think DS is nearing the weight limits for it. It's a good way to hold them onto my hip; they both like being on the hip and it's more convenient for a short errand than to get the whole MT tied.

We tried a sling and it just didn't work for us so we got a Moby and my dd LOVES it. She's now a little older and will tolerate a sling but she's the happiest baby in her Moby...

And I'll admit I was a little intimidated by a wrap at first but it only took me 1-2 days to figure out how to wrap it up and now it's super easy.

I really had no luck with a sling when DS was itty bitty. But I loved it later on for hip carries, like 9 months and up.

But with my girl, who is a total hip baby, she hates it... by the time I get it on and adjusted, she's hysterical and covered in snot and crying, so I have to take her out to calm her down.

But she loves to be on my back in a Beco. If she cries a little at first she calms down VERY fast.

Baby wearing is one of life's mysteries...

Mine hates it too. I thought it was me, but no, it's her. Turns out she doesn't like her feet squashed in. She'll only tolerate the MT for a few minutes. I'm getting ready to try some feet out carrys.
