Planted a seed today..and watched it grow

I worked up the nerve to ask a young pregnant lady that I know if she's thought about circumcision yet. She said that she hadn't though about it, but that most of the kids that she knows have had it done. I said that there's good reason not to do it and that she should look into it before they ask her about it in the hospital. Then, I asked another mother (there were about 4 of us in a smallish room) if she had circ'd her sons (I already knew the answer). The other mother started her tirade about how awful it is and that her first son was and how he screamed while it was done to him and how wrong it was. Then, to my surprise, another mother in there started talking about her own first son that she had it done to and how badly it went with adhesions and pain/problems. The other woman didn't circ her younger sons after the first had all those issues.

I'm crossing my fingers that it works. She didn't seem taken aback by the conversation and was listening.

Just thought I'd share

poor babies hopefully that will scare her for life. Did you mention how easy is to care for an intact penis?

Yes, I did and in the process found out that one of the mothers was retracting. So, then we started on her about how to leave it alone. It wasn't a stressful conversation and I'm really glad that we all had it!

Great Job. I think most people just need a little push to get the wheels turning. BTW, what State are you in, just wanted to know where all this forward thinking is happening.

Where did this take place? Just curious. I'm kind of picturing 4 of you in the Babies R Us Mothers Room, for some reason.

That's actually how I became aware of the issue. First of all, I didn't even KNOW that anyone did outside of religious reasons.. but one time when I was young and married and still childless my aunts (nurses) had a rather loud and opinionated conversation around me about how horrible it was and how they refused to attend them etc. and hearing that convo. (heheh maybe it was an intentional one) made up my mind.

What a perfect opportunity! Good for you for having the courage to sieze it and orchestrate the conversation.

A homeschool gathering. She's a nanny for one of the homeschooled kids. We're in the SEattle area, so maybe she'll get more pressure to not circ than to circ.
