People say the craziest things, uggggh!

So I had DD at the store today in our babyhawk. As I'm checking out the cashier yells at me in front of a line of people that I'm squeezing my boy or girl or whatever it is she said. I didn't know what to say I was so stunned, she also had a strong accent I couldn't place. I just politely told her that she is just fine. I wanted to say you dummie, if she was hurting she would definitely let me know, not be snoozing away like she was. ::

Ugh, some people are lacking the "mind your own business" gene. When DD was a small baby and I'd have her out in the sling, people would say things like "She can't breathe in there!" or "You should let her sleep in the car seat, she'd be happier." Yep, I'll get right on that, thanks for the advice.

While some people are polite to these noseys and say "thanks for your concern," I used it as a chance to get on my soapbox about babywearing.

"Well actually, babies who are worn are so much happier, blah blah..." Then they're either really interested in learning more or just want to get away from your lecture. Either way, it's a win win!

ds is big for his tender age (15 months) so I get a lot of "He's almost too big for that THING" and "Pretty soon he'll be walking and you can get rid of that THING".

Since I am old, I like to use it as an opportunity to educate them about the physics of how a Girasol Earthy Rainbow woven German Style Wrap carrier distributes weight comfortably over my body and why it is so much more comfortable for my son than a Baby Bjorn or a Snuggli and to suggest that an inexpensive Moby or Sleepy Wrap would make a far better baby shower gift than either of those carriers or a stroller.

If I'm in a hurry or in a bad mood, though, I can get rude and tell them to get that THING out of my way and take it to the dump themselves because their old garbage is not my problem and if I'd wanted a battered and broken umbrella stroller instead of a fine organic hand woven textile that cost me a pretty penny, I would have fished one out of the trash myself!
