Shoulder pain with rucksack

Thread Starter
I just got a didymos (hoorah!!!) but I am having a lot of trouble with the rucksack carry. I think I'm doing it right, and I've attached some pics so you pros can tell me for sure. Immediately after getting it tied, I get heavy pains in my shoulders - it feels like all her weight is on my shoulders. I know this is supposed to be such a comfy carry, so I am sure I must be doing something wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. Help! I am a small mama, 5'0 and 100 lbs or so, and my shoulders are narrow - could that be part of the problem??

I can't see the pics either. Are you doing a ruck tied under the bum or with a waist strap? Tied under the bum you'll have all the weight on your shoulders which takes some getting used to. Even if you're using a waist strap I still found the first few times I used it my muscles were getting used to the new strains but after that it wasn't bad. I like to fold the part of the wrap that's going over the shoulder in half 3 times so it forms a nice padded strap.

I can't see pics, but when I hear "pain in the shoulders" I immediately think the top rail isn't tight enough and baby is leaning back a bit. You really want baby snug, tight so your back supports the weight.

This takes practice but after I toss baby up, I hunch over, and pull the top rail tight, then I fold the shoulder rail in half towards my neck to create a double thick "sandwich style" shoulder. Then, I make sure to tuck the wrap securely under baby's butt all the way to the knees. Then I checkthe shoulders again and finally tighten the top rail before crossing the wrap back under the butt through the legs to tie in front. HTH

Oh yeah, what Didy did you get???
