In my quest to continue to share some happy news about the animals I volunteer with, I thought I would share this happy story about another success story.
Shelbi Jo came to our shelter in October after she was abandoned at a local kennel. The Kennel was going to keep her, but they noticed that she was becoming very "cage crazy" and was not a fan of men at all. After arriving, we also noticed that as soon as another male came around she would act as though she wanted to tear that person apart. Often, when there is this kind of behavior we are concerned that the dog was abused. We also worry about fear biting and in light of this fact, were also worried that she would just have to be euthanized. Over time, the staff has fallen in love with her and she has improved. Daily walks over the past couple of months has helped her not be as cage crazy as she once was, as well as she has mellowed out towards men in general. I have also noticed on our walks, that she is much easier to walk and doesn't pull like she once did. Still, with all of these improvements, I didn't have a whole lot of hope that she would find her forever home.
A couple of days ago, a young guy came in to meet Shelbi Jo and they immediately connected. He came back today to get to know her and put her on hold. He's picking her up on Monday, but in the mean time is going to come back every day between now and then to walk and get to know her better.
Again, there's so many sad stories that I can share about animals at the shelter, but it makes me feel so good when I am able to share a happy story. I guess it gives me the motivation to continue helping in any small way that I can. Congratulations Shelbi Jo!!!!!! Here's a picture..........
