Oh no! Stock left out all night!

WWYD? I made chicken veggie stock last night, and forgot to put it in the fridge before I went to bed. WAAAAAAHHH!

Do you think I need to throw it out? Or if I boil it again today will it be okay?? Do you think I should freeze it too before I eat it?

It is the huge pot with the chicken bones and veggies. I like to leave them in the liquid overnite, before boiling again and separating, so it takes me 2 days to make stock.

It is 71 degrees here already on the thermostat, so it did not get cool in the house overnight. I'm so sad....

I would not risk it and dump it. Especially since there is chicken in it.

I hate when stuff like that happens. I found a pound of ground beef a while ago on the shelf NEXT to the freezer dh took it out of... And once I found a Tuppeware container with beef for steak sandwiches in the Tupperware cabinet.

Really? I guess I am letting my hunger for this delicious stock to cloud my judgement!! I was hoping that boiling it for several hours this morning would kill any cooties and concerns!! It was only out for 7 hours... darnit!!!!!!!

I've done this a few times and just re-boiled it ... I can't imagine cooties surviving boiling water for hours ...

My homemade turkey soup is DD favorite meal and she will eat it for days until it's gone ... she's never gotten sick from it but maybe we've just been lucky.

Most pathogenic bacteria thrive at the same temperatures we like (40 degrees to 140). Some of them form toxins that are NOT DESTROYED BY HEATING. Really, I wouldn't chance it. I know, it's hard to waste good homemade stock... (but food poisoning isn't cheap either!).

So sorry! I've done this, too.

Good luck,
Teresa

My MIL and FIL in england do this kind of thing all the time. It makes me nervous, but they never seem to get sick. They have a tiny fridge, so they will leave things out that I never would have, including stock and turkeys!

I'd probably toss it myself though. It's sad, isn't it?

I'd toss it too. Sorry...

Was cooled off when you would have wanted to put it in the fridge? Had you opened the lid since it had been boiling? If no to both, I'd re-boil it and use it. If yes, I'd chuck it. But that's me.
