Exemptions and summer camp?

Do exemptions work for summer camp? I live in MA and its called Camp Putnam. My 9 yr old wants to go but not sure if he can...we claim a religious exemption for school. Thanks for any help

I believe that if the camp receives ANY state funding (for lunches or whatever) they have to take the exemption. If it is 100% private and funded privately I don't think they are under any legal obligation to except the exemption...although that doesn't mean they won't.

One of my best friends runs a overnight camp in CT...According to her, they can accept them or not, It is completely up to the camp.

She accepts them.

Hmmm...Do I just ask them? They are owned by a non-profit organization so its not state funded I don't think.

A lot of non profits receive some state funding. I would turn in the paperwork and see what happens.

My mom used to run a non-profit summer camp....they are usually the ones that receive the most state funding! I agree...turn in the papers, don't say anything and see what happens

I just turn it in and hope for the best. Five years of summer camps now, and I've never been questioned.

has anyone had any experience w/ using exemptions at a franchise day care? The one near me runs a summer camp, but they charge so much money to even go, that I doubt they get any funding from the state.

If they ask if the child is up to date what do you say?

"we have a religious exemption" and don't comment any further.
