"Wow, he's so tall!!" - Page 3

Funny, I just measured DD1 yesterday and she was 39.5 inches... she will be 3 at the end of June. The reason I measured her was because we were at the park the other day, and there was a 5 year old girl and a 6 year old boy that were both just BARELY taller than her. I knew she'd had a growth spurt recently so I had to check it out. She's always been tall for her age, but she's also always been pretty thin for her height... she is 29 pounds right now, which is what she weighed when she was 2. So 96% for height, 35th for weight. She hasn't had baby fat in ages, which also makes her look much, much older than she is.

FYI, I'm 5'9" and DH is 5'11".

Thank you for this thread! I really appreciate knowing what I may be getting into in the future as DD is currently in the 75% percentile in height and shows no slowing down. She's only 2 months old and is already in 3-6 months outfits!

This wasn't a total surprise to DH and I. We both have super tall ppl in our families—as well as short ppl (myself included). Somehow, I have a feeling DD may end up taller than me.

We get it alot too. DD1 is 97th% for height and then there is DD2 who is 97% for height and less than the 3rd for weight. We hear "omg she's so tinnnnny!" constantly. And of course lots of the "don't you feed that kid??" comments too.

we get the comments with my oldest because she is tall for her age, I can totally relate to all of this! we also get comments with my almost 4 yr old because she is super super tiny seriously... she's only in the 1% for height lol. we have some really short people in the family though. two of my great aunts are like 4' something and my dh's grandmother and mom are really short too. We also have tall people in my family, some of my uncles are really tall (dad's brothers) but my dad and his sisters are short. crazy genetics at work .

Yeah, DD is 3 years 5 months, weighs 43 pounds and is 41 inches tall. I get the tall comments all the time. It doesn't bother me though, I usually just make some comment about not being able to keep up with all the clothes sizes.

My son is on the tall side.

I am short 5'2" and my husband is 6'2". When people comment that he is tall for his age, I just tell them his Dad is tall. He certainly doesn't get it from me or my side of the family. I am actually 'tall' in my family. I am taller than my aunts on my Dad's side, my grandma, my mom and my sister.

I do notice that having a tall son means I am a poor estimator of other children's age based on size. Once they start talking, playing and I see other children for a few minutes I can guess better. The other day in Target there was a little girl that was much shorter than my son and I thought she was like 18 months and then she started dancing, talking and waving and I realized she was probably closer to his age.

nak

when dd10 was 2 i took her to the lake and had a older lady come up and and say she's so pretty- how old is she like 4. to which i replied no she's 2. she didn't believe me- commented no she can't be she's 4. i just smiled and walked away. i'm the momma i think i know when i gave birth. she wasn't even close to 3 yet- it was june and her b-day's in dec.

i get comments all the time on my children's sizes- either they are too big or too small. i wish people would make up their minds.

I'm glad I found this thread! We've gotten a lot of "Gosh she's tall!" comments, but nothing rude (and mostly people just seem surprised, not mean about it). But it's good to see what we might encounter in the future! She's only 20 months and is around 35" (if not a little more). However, her red hair is taking so long growing in that she still looks "baby" to people, so I think that helps with convincing folks of her age! She's been around 97th percentile for height since birth but around 40th percentile for weight for the past year.

I was top of the charts for height and weight until I was 11 or 12--tallest in my class every year, hit puberty around 10, and then everyone else kept growing and I was at my adult height! I was "mature" for my age, too, so I always liked making people think I was older, lol. Once I hit 16, though, everyone thought I was like 13!

I don't have a toddler, but a 4 year old who is 45" tall. I'm always getting, "She's so tall!" She's always been off the chart for height as was I & dh. It's usually no big deal but it is frustrating when people don't know her age & expect her to act like a 6 or 7 year old.
