best diaper pail and wet bags?

I'm doing a fairly simple, cheap stash - prefolds, snappis, thirsties and flushable liners (I live in an apartment, have to use public w/d, and want to have as little poop in there as possible, lol).

I don't know what to buy as far as wet bags go...or diaper pails. I have 6 dozen prefolds because I'd like to wash only one or two times a week. We have a small bathroom, btw.

What diaper wet bag would you recommend for day trips? How about to use for around the house? I was thinking of getting the proservice liner from little-lions as it fits 6 dozen dipes in it...but it's just drawstrings...do those work okay to keep the smell in?

H-E-L-P. Please? Thanks!

I find zipper closures on wet bags to work much better than drawstring. Wahmies offers nice wet bags and pail liners. I like their pail liners as well b/c they have elastic at the top so it fits nicely over whatever size garbage pail you are using to store dirty dipes.

I use a trash barrel with a pop up lid and swaddlebees wet bags I only have two which is fine with an older dc but I am getting another one as I am expecting in Sept. Three will be key. Last time I found myself having to scrub the pail inbetwen washes because one liner was dirty and the other was drying. My liners are going on three years and they still look brand new.

I have a big Mommy's Touch wet bag for overnight trips and a smaller Wet Happens bag for the diaper bag. Both are zipper closures and, IMHO, for superior to the draw string Bummis bag I initially bought.

Our diaper pails are 13 gallon trash cans: one has a step on lid, the other has no top whatsoever, and that's the one next to the changing table! I do not find the smell to be overwhelming (if it is, it's ammonia and I know it's time to wash). My pail liners are Blue Penguin extra large. I love them. I have two - one for laundering and one to use in the meantime. The other can we keep in the bedroom and since there's only 1 or 2 dipes in there at a time, I don't keep a liner in it. Then again, DD doesn't really poop over night, so it's not an issue.

My diaper pails are just flip-top kitchen trash cans. For liners, we use nylon Bummis totes. I keep the liner open. I find I get no odor at all if the diapers are exposed to air with a loose-fitting lid. I only have odor if I go more than about five days without washing, and then only if the weather is warm.

Baby's R Us has had simple step closure lid diaper pails around forever. Cheap -- like $10.00
For one baby I have had one. For two I have had two. After baby they house our family cloth.
You can always start with one wet bag and expand if you need.

Bummis

Love the bummies.
Tried a SAHMIES zippered pouch for wipes, it wicked on the zipper.
Tried a nylon bag, it wicked if too much pee.

So love the bummies. Very durable. Been using for 4 years straight now (doing family cloth now).

I really like the Bummis tote bags, all sizes. Our extra-larges were diaper pail liners and they did lose their waterproofing after 2 years but that was with hard, hard use. The Wahmies tote I had, by comparison, was never waterproof at all, and lost the string pretty quickly. I also tried several other brands of wet bags and they were either not waterproof, or the zipper broke or the velcro was annoying. So this time around I am going to stick with Bummis.

Our Wahmies have worked really well, though I never heard of one with a string, I wonder if that is older? The Planet Wise wet bags have also worked great for us!

I have used a Bumkins Dirty Duds bag with drawstring and that has generally held the smell in unless you get super close to it, then you can smell it a little.
