Is wool worth the $$$?

I'm new to CDing. Here's my question. I'm interested in prefolds/fitteds and I know there are many different cover options out there. I would love to try wool but realized it's fairly expensive. Is it worth it?

If you use wool, what do you like/love about it?

Wool is soft and cozy, warm and cool, and you only have to wash it every few weeks unless pooped on.

I like wool soakers better than wraps. Longies and shorts. But wraps have elastic, which is often a good thing.

I think it is worth the cost. Especially if the appeal is about natural fibers!

Yes, its worth it.

Its soft, they dont leave marks on your lo, they dont leak, you can use them over and over again since they dont breed bacteria in them. They let your LOs bottom breath so less chance of diaper rash. They are great for night time! And you can make them smell super nice

You can get recycled wool covers that work great for less than many PUL covers.

Wool is soft and breathable. That's what's great about it. However, I'm VERY VERY VERY lazy when it comes to handwashing anything. I found with dd I could adequate breathability from using PUL at night and out of the house and leaving her coverless the rest of the time.

I really only washed my wool maybe once a month? I had a large rotataion, but really unless they are stinky or have poo on them they dont need to be washed. And all you have to do it stick them in some room temp water with wool wash (or baby shampoo) let them soak for a few minutes, and then come back and ring them out. Then roll up in a towel, for about an hour, and line dry. Then i spray them with lanolin (if they need it). THats it, it took 5 minutes of my actual energy to wash them.

I think they are worth it and I use my HE front loader with them - too lazy to hand wash ANYTHING

this is what i was gonna say.

i use both pul and wool though. i've found pros and cons for both.

It's soft, breathable (so it helps prevent rash) and for some people, thick wool is the only thing bulletproof enough for nighttime.

For us it was worth it. We mainly used wool at night and it was so worth it becuase it contained our very heavy wetting children and saved us from a lot of wet beds.

Wow thanks for all the input! I'm pretty sure I'm going to love wool, being the natural fibers buff that I am.

thanks for this website! I'd love to support a momma instead of a big company!

Yup i love my wool covers you can also make them out of old jumpers (sweaters) really easily.

I am the minority. Wool do dnot work for us. I tried it all, Bumpys,Aristocrats, longies Ruskovilias, and old sweaters but ds was constantly scratching at himself. I have never ben able to wear wool I get so itchy and break out into hives. No matter what the wool even the sofest lambswool makes my skin crawl even on my feet. I think ds has the same problem. I also found it to be extremely bulky compared to micro fiber and fleece pocket dipes. Anything worn during the wool phase was ruined because the clothes especially the elastics stretched out

I love my loveybums wool covers, but after using them for 8 months I realized that I loved them when DD was a newborn, but after she moved onto the mediums, I didn't like it so much because it's so hard to put them on. I also didn't like prefolds after she got bigger so try getting maybe 2 to start out and then get more later when your baby grows. There's no need to get everything all at once in the beginning (like I did) because believe it or not, your taste will change a lot!

Thanks for the reminder! I'm starting to gather used stuff, but still, I feel my OCD kicking in!
