Frustrated Already

I diapered my daughter on and off, and am trying to get back into it. Usually I would give up from lack of support from my husband. It was so frustrating to me to try and CD when every time I turned around he had the baby in a sposie again. I started my son for the first time this morning. He is almost eight months and still pees every half hour. I don't have enough diapers for this! I am so tempted to give up already but I would really like to cut costs and waste. Do you think that he might pee less often as he gets used to cloth, or is he just a frequent pee-er?

I'm so sorry you've had troubles with your husband being supportive of cloth diapering and now your son peeing often. What kind of diapers are you using? Prefolds are relatively cost effective to get more of and of course much less than sposies.

Unfortunately I do not know if he would pee less as he got use to cloth, but I think maybe as gets older he will begin to pee less, but maybe someone else has more experience with this. We change our son probably 9-12 times a day or so.

I am sorry I do not have better info for you, but hopefully someone else will!

My husband is actually going to help this time. He is the one who brought up trying to CD again. Right now my son has some AIO, which is the only thing my husband will use. We only have about 15 AIO. I have some RRP I made when DD grew out of the AIO, but no covers. The RRP would fit DS as well, but I don't have covers and don't have the money to spend on covers. DD goes coverless, but I'm not sure about letting DS co coverless when he is just crawling at the moment. We have some prefolds, but they are the cheap Gerber's that don't absorb very well.

I hear you about about being a pee-er! My nephew just seems to have a constant dribble. He's potty learning right now and is always wet! It is probably just how some little ones are. Good luck.

If you can sew at all or know someone who does, recycled wool bum sweaters are probably a good option for you - you can get some old wool sweaters from your closet or from Goodwill for just a few bucks and sew them up into cute covers! Depending on your boy's size, you might be able to get 2 sweaters and a pair of longies or shorties from the arms!

A lot of people use the old fashioned diaper pants, that are really quite inexpensive. For me, not quite as convenient as something like a Thirsties cover, but works nonetheless.

I do think babies tend to pee less often as they get a little older...I'm not sure. Good luck!

How about pockets? If you stuff them they would be the same as AIOs for your husband, and you could add more absorbency if you need to. There was a thread here just recently about inexpensive OS pockets if you're on a tight budget.

I would also recommend pockets. I couldn't get AIOs to work for us, and pockets are essentially the same thing, just with an extra step. That extra step made the difference, for me, between CDing and using sposies.
