My midwife suggested I take some progesterone, or wild yam. Does anyone use the over the counter progesterone? Is that what she was talking about, all the lables say 'do not use when pregnant.' I have heard people talk about over the counter progesterone before.. is the menopause stuff what they are talking about?

Whould you do progesterone or wild yam? Does anyone know what the main difference is?

Over the counter progesterone is the cream you can buy either online or at a natural foods type store. I was using Progestacare once a day. I ended up switching to Prometrium prescribed by my Re just to be on the safe side since my progesterone was 15. Over the counter or prescription will say dont take while pregnant, but I think that is just a general statement since it is a hormone. I dont know much about wild yam. I am a big fan of progesterone with having several losses. It may not always be needed but it sures gives me one less thing to worry about.

I also take prometrium. My progesterone has been SO low since baby number 7. It's a script from my dr. I also have the wild yam cream that I used between ovulation and finding out I was pg. It really can't hurt you and can only help. I"m so jealous of the ladies here who have progesterone of like 95! Mine is lucky to make it to 25, LOL.

My midwife prescribed prometrium when I was first pregnant after a loss. My progesterone had been low with the baby I lost, so they wanted to be safe. As far as the warning on the meds go, I was really concerned about that, too! I called the pharmacist as soon as I read it and they told me that it is a general warning and certainly my midwife knew when she prescribed it to me. (They told me the risk (albeit extremely rare) was to certain developing male anatomy.)

Ive seen so many different things about what progesterone should be in the first trimester. My midwife said anything between 9-47 is normal in the first trimester, but reading some of these posts it seems like a number like 9 would be cause for concern? Mine is 24.7 at almost 5 weeks. I asked my mw to test because I am still nursing ds quite a bit, and have had 8 day lp's since ppaf.

My mw is also VERY laid back about this stuff. She says most of the time, your body knows what it's doing, and that it wouldn't have gotten pg if it wasn't ready. She also said that there is no shortage of children in countries where extended bf'ing is the norm, which I though was a good point.\

I'm not trying to hijack pp's thread,I just didn't want to start another thread on p when there's already one going.

I too am jealous of the ladies with higher progesterone levels. Mine was 20 at first check then dropped to 15. I am hoping its just a normal fluctuation and not something that will continue. I know they say the norm starts at around 10 and I read 20 was the average.
