Chat Thread May 9-16

Thread Starter
It's Saturday! And the forum seems busy, so it's a good time to get a new chat thread going.

Here's the last page of the old chat thread

Jacqueline, how about your consider yourself on pre-babymoon for the chat threads until life settles down after your LO arrives?

Everyone who's new should feel free to jump in, this is a place we can ask those questions that aren't quite substantive enough for their own threads, or just talk about whatever comes up in our lives.

As a quick summary--we're talking about detoxification in the Allergies forum because several of us have now seen that our kids reactions to foods can get better or worse fairly quickly if we are/aren't providing the nutrients needed for our livers to do their detoxification jobs. It takes some sleuthing to piece together each of our family health histories and our individual symptoms, because not everyone has the same nutritional needs or is starting from the same place nutritionally, but it's looking to be helpful both short-term and long-term for our childrens' health and our health.

Threads from a few people looking for input:
Rileyscoutmom's path with a vaccine injured child
probiotics making reflux worse?
All About Dannic
?s to as a homeopath
triscuitsmom and her 2 kids
All About Mammo2Sammo
All About Lastrid
MamaRye's congested LO, needing ideas

Learn-new-stuff threads (this is how we match our symptoms to what's going on, biochemically, in our bodies, and figure out what nutrients we need):
Ammonia and BH4
detox pathway guinea pig
sulfur sensitivity
prostaglandins

I'm having a hard time figuring out which posters could still use more input, so feel free to either ask me to link here or post in this thread with a link.

Thanks, Tanya. So grateful. DH's still sick, worse today than yesterday, with whatever it is that DS1 brought home last weekend so he's a big baby and I'm exhausted.
DS2 had a rotten sleep last night, woke up every hour or so if he wasn't latched on... I think he's just overly sensitive because he senses his time as "the baby" is coming to an end. Makes me sad. I was hoping he'd have more time, another year or so, but I guess the Universe thought we needed a new(er) one.
Nothing exciting on the baby front today.
I think today's full moon, isn't it, Nessa? What's our focus tonight?

Aawww- poor DS2. I'm sure once he gets used to the idea, he'll be really excited to be a big brother.

But we originally went off of wheat and dairy at the same time, so not sure if it was ever a problem. And twice recently my lo got ahold of someone else's shake and guzzled for all she's worth. There was definitely no immediate reaction, and no delayed reaction that I noticed. And we have a raw cow's milk cheese that says enzymes in it. I don't think it even has casein. And I just did crystal testing on it (okay, a key on a string) and it said "yes". Should I try it?

I'm really afraid to try beans though. I ordered through azure co-op 4 cases of 12 cans each of different kinds of beans. I really like beans and wanted to try to lower our grocery bill (which is heavy on the meat). I had been eating beans, not sure if she did or not, but didn't notice anything. But she had been eating peas, and all of a sudden one day broke out in hives while eating them. now I'm afraid she could ana on the beans. I did get her epi filled and have the syringes, no longer have the paper w/dosage.
Good luck with the cheese Tracy! (Although I don't think it's possible that there is a cheese with no casein, because that is the protein.)

DD is really, really sensitive to peas. But I've tried a few kinds of beans, and she hasn't reacted. Or at least the reaction was mild. So I think it's possible to be ok with beans but not peas.

Subbing for the week. My chiropractor said my knee seems to be healing enough that I can try riding my bike this weekend. I have been on the stationary bike at her office twice and my knee seems to be handling it well. I also, though, think it's time to up my MSM to 5 grams a day (I'm currently at 4 grams).

back from class. I learned that salt is a good way to increase your kidney filtration rate (I think mine's slow), that salicylates cause respiratory alkalosis (which could be why they make kids hyper), and that next week we'll cover Th1 vs Th2 immunity

I also learned that the ammonia in urine will help if you're stung by a sting ray? jelly fish? And that the reason kids wet the bed is because they're deep sleepers who haven't developed voluntary control over their bladders yet

It really is a mixed bag with this class!

Have I ever mentioned I don't like arrogant people?:

I know it helps if you're stung by a bee... My foster sister who had spina bifuda was allergic to bees and my foster mom slapped her (fs's) diaper on it to buy them time to get to the hospital.

Is there a limit as to how many "back burners" we're allowed to have? Are we allowed to only have one "front burner"?
I want to go to bed. I'm whiny and moody and I want attention. So long as I can get attention without anyone actually TOUCHING me... Which reminds me...

I should make a list of all my back burners... then maybe I'd actually remember to come back to them.

I think you can fill as many front burners as you can do at once. For me, that's ONE. I'm hoping getting this dopamine mess will help that.

what does that mean 'back burner' ? :
It's just an analogy... Like how you put soup on the back burner of the stove to simmer all day while you use the front burners for things that need your attention right now?

Think of a stove top. It's something that's on your mind/something you want to get done, but it's not high priority, and so it's not getting much of your attention. Kinda like the pot of lentils simmering away on the back burner while you chop veggies and saute onions up front.

I know a few of you take Digest Gold and I was wondering if you'd noticed anything weird about your most recent bottle. About three months ago, I bought a new, giant bottle, and when I opened it at home, it smelled really bizarre-strong and almost alcoholic with a kind of acrid undertone. I took the bottle back and exchanged it for a different one. The new one smelled funny too, but not quite as bad, so I kept it. At the time, DS was taking 1/2 before meals and I was taking one. This started to not cut it, so I had to double the dosage. The most recent bottle still doesn't smell right and I have the feeling that it's just not working as well as it used to. I called the company and got "each batch is different and it should be fine," and haven't bothered to call back. Anyone else experiencing this? Or is my Vitamin Shoppe just the lucky one to get a bad case of it.

Anyone else use an enzyme mix that is free of fillers and comparable to Digest Gold?

I know it was on the script pad but when I picked it up the guy denied it - I think they didn't put in on my bottle because there were two doses listed, one for my ds (peanuts) and one for my dd.
Are you frickin serious?!? DD is 21 pounds. And what do we have in our emergency bag? A twin-pack EpiPen Jr. They even weighed her at the allergist's office, where she also weighed 21 pounds. You would think that the allergist would know these things.

Nothing to say. Just wanted to sub in.

Wishing everyone here a happy, healthy & peaceful mother's day!

Ummm excuse me, my daughter is 18 pounds and she too was weighed at the allergist's when they prescribed us with epipen Jr. What do I do now?

I guess we need to start lobbying for an epipen infant.

I don't know, but our allergist is going to get an earfull on Monday!! I already feel like she writes me off as a hysterical, over-protective mother... and now I feel like she just gave me the epi prescription to shut me up (I asked for it, she didn't offer. Even though blood and skin tests showed multiple IgE allergies.) And what happens if I actually have to use the thing? I risk giving DD a heart attack or kidney failure by overdosing her with epinephrine? I am so irritated right now. I guess I should have read the inserts more carefully... *sigh*

This allergist saw my eczema-riddled baby (and I mean riddled - did you see my video of her pics?) and perscribed it and had a nurse come in and do teaching w/me. This was last summer, so I don't remember a lot, but he said she was too little for the epi jr - they gave me syringes, even for my big 2.5 yr old boy. When I finally decided to fill it a few weeks ago after the pea incident, the pharm guy kind of freaked and was like, this is really dangerous, if you get the wrong dose you could kill her, in this kind of, "Do you REALLY want this bottle?" kind of way. I got really angry and said, I didn't ask for this, I didn't ask for this bottle, didn't ask for a kid allergic to everything. You think I'm not scared, you need to scare me more? It is more scary to be without it right now. At any rate, he wouldn't give me the bottle until he looked up the epi pen jr and he confirmed it said 33 lbs (or was it 31?).

I could be wrong, but I believe you could kill your child if you use the epi pen jr on them and they weight quite a bit less than that.

That cheese that I'm taking about I think it says no casein added? I'm going to look the next time I'm at the co-op and see the brand again. Weird.

Jacqueline, I've been thinking about you and your baby lately. I didn't realize until tonight that you were still nursing one. I conceived baby #3 the day before my ds's 1st bday so nursed through that pg and am still nursing them both. I know what you mean. It was hard after the baby came. My ds used to co-sleep w/me and after the baby came I tried to continue that but my dh pretty much insisted on taking the boy and sleeping w/him in another room because it wasn't working. It was hard. Now he is back to sleeping w/me again, just the last week or so. He doesn't try to nurse at night, but he says "Hold me mama" and sometimes cries if the baby wants to nurse and I can't hold him w/both arms.

How old are your two?

On a good note, the night I went into labor my ds was able to speed things along by nursing, or so it seemed. The ctxn seemed to get stronger while he nursed.

Carren, happy Mothers Day to you to!!!!!

~Tracy
