(extra TMI goodness) Water broke?? (maybe? probably not?)

I've always rolled my eyes a little bit at women who said "I am not sure if my water just broke." So, I was pretty much asking to become one of them I guess.

Here's the deal: 41 weeks today, been losing my mucus plug in pieces since Thursday night. NO bloody show, no real contractions to speak of, but plenty of menstrual-like cramping.

Yesterday, we went for a really long walk and I tried to stay on my feet the whole day to get things moving. Around midnight last night, I felt a little (and I do mean little) gush of fluid. Checked undies, it's clear, doesn't smell like pee (at least I don't think) and also came w/ clear, slippery mucus (not at all like my mucus plug, more like...super clear EWCM). I've been having that off and on since midnight, but no big gushes of fluid, even when I'm standing or on the toilet. This might make more sense to me if I felt like the baby was lower, but I don't think the LO is all that low...I can definitely feel a shoulder above my pubic bone still (on the left side), and I don't have that head-between-the-legs feeling that most women seem to describe when their baby drops.

Grr....I really don't want to make an unnecessary trip to L&D, nor do I want to get myself put on the clock from ROM yet...especially without any sign of a good contraction pattern.

Any input?

Hope you ladies are all having a fantastic Mother's Day! And hopefully at least a few of us will get a nice, cuddly Mother's day gift in the form of not being pregnant any more!

Hmmm...you can buy those little test strips at the department store (they are made to check acquariam fluid, but work to check for amniotic fluid, too), if you'd rather do that than go to the ER. (I know I would! )

Since you're still getting more, I'd think it would be your water, though. I had a small gush last week and the MW tested and it was not amniotic fluid. She said probably stress incontinance being my 5th, BUT better safe than sorry. When you change positions, do you notice more coming out? That's what I do when I'm unsure if it's my water, especially going from laying down to sitting up.

I think it might just be pee. There's no change when I change positions...I'll see if it keeps up for much longer, now that I'm up moving around. Sheesh...baby, it's time for you to come out!!

I'd say if it keeps up it's probably your water! My mw said that amniotic fluid can smell similar to semen, so if it smells like that and not pee that's a good sign!

Yes! I may know!

At my appt with my mw last week she told me that many people don't lose a huge plug, but that their bodies can sortof "liquify" some of it, which might result in a watery discharge more watery than cervical mucus.

I had a few little gushes like this where it would leave a quarter to half-dollar sized wet spot in my undies (no mucus accompanying for me though) and she seemed to think it was part of my "plug" rather than a rupture of my membranes.

I don't know in your case though. But, just something to think about.

Good luck! keep us posted!

Sounds like it could be! I can't wait to hear! Contractions will eventually start if it is indeed your water. I say it's a wait and see thing at this point. I'm excited for you Laura . Are you wearing a pad to collect any more? I was able to see the pink tinge last week when I did that.

j_p_i it does sort of have *that* smell...but I haven't had much more since I've been up. And contractions haven't started. So...who knows.

Sadie - it definitely sounds more like what you described...like liquified mucus plug or something. That's what I thought of first, but wasn't sure if that was possible.

DH started doing research on pressure points for inducing labor, we're going to try a little homemade prenatal massage later this afternoon. I can't believe it's 41 weeks! I got a stupid email from BabyCenter today "Your 1-week old" - haha! Not even close!

It can't be that much longer...he or she *has* to come out soon!
