picky pants with thin yarn?

I found some great merino- but it is a light worsted- and it just makes too loose of a knit on size 8s... But just a perfect knit on 6s- but totally not to a good gauge at all. Should I just figure out my guage and redo the math?

Anybody try this?

I do it all the time! I'm not familiar with the picky pants pattern specifically, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

And if these will be for a not-yet-born baby, I like EZ's logic of "knit it and it will fit the baby at some point!

Yup just refigure your gauge and go from there. That said, I did a pair over a year ago in some Paton's Merino (which IMO is a light worsted) and it was just fine. Looser but not in a bad way. I actually liked it a bit looser since it was a thinner yarn...sort of compensated yk? I didn't redo my gauge or anything. Then again, I don't ever. Theresa has smacked my hands once or twice over that admission in regards to her patterns.
