Worrying ultrasound? happy update post #40

Hi there,

so I had my second ultrasound yesterday...based on the first ultrasound and hcg counts, I figured I was about 6 weeks.

I was hoping to see a heartbeat, but...

...long story made short, I ended up getting a trans-vaginal ultrasound again *shudder*, and we only saw a sac...no 'occupant. ...and when the technician measured the sac, she put me at around 5 weeks.

So now I'm worried because I'm measuring about a week behind where I thought I was, AND they didn't find an "occupant", only the sac.

I'm going to have another ultrasound in 2-3 weeks, but that is going to feel like a LONG time.

. I know it is easier said than done, but try not to worry. Maybe you are simply off by a week and you really are 5 weeks? Maybe that is why they can't hear or see anything?

I hope it all turns out well.

Oh no! How unsettling. Was it a dr. that did your ultra sound? Why are they making you wait so long to go again? Maybe you could talk them in to letting you go next Friday or Saturday? Did you do blood tests? I know how hard the wait is and I hope it goes super fast for you!

maybe I'll give my midwife a call tomorrow, and see if we can come up with either a suitable explanation, or more bloodwork and/or another ultrasound.

...in the meantime, trying to keep my mind occupied!

I agree with everyone else. Blood test and another u/s sooner sounds like a good idea. Take it easy and sending good vibes your way!!

I would say to try to schedule that ultrasound a little earlier.

...just called my MW's office and asked for an earlier ultrasound, as well as some more bloodwork.



hoping this is just a blip in an otherwise uneventful pregnancy.

That really stinks, geogirl.

Is it important that you know for sure that you are pregnant right away? If not, is there anything you can do to help yourself relax until it becomes clear? Sometimes I think the answer is not always hurrying after more knowledge, but instead becomming peaceful with what we do know.

Typically I'm pretty zen...but I just completed cancer treatments, and this was a very unexpected pregnancy.

...so we were just starting to get used to the idea, and even a bit excited....

...and now THIS.



If there is a baby in there, I will be concerned this entire pregnancy, unlike my previous two.

...just got a call from my midwife, and she is going to schedule another ultrasound for this coming Friday...argghhhh, it is going to be a long 4 days!

I am so sorry you are going through this. I had a blighted ovum (just a sac/no occupant), but I never felt pregnant. It miscarried on its own at about 8 weeks. But, having never felt pregnant, I didn't know until i had an ultrasound to determine that I had been (sort of). I am so hopeful that you are just earlier on than first thought!

How do you feel? I am thinking if you are having pregancy symptoms, that's a good thing. I will be thinking absolutely the best thoughts for you between now and Friday, and am visualizing your celebration thread from that appt. now!

I feel slightly nauseous, and have a headache, but that could also be from the stress and pre-occupation!

I won't have the ultrasound until the 22nd - 8 days from now!

The good thing is that the u/s will be at 8 weeks, so we'll know definitively if this pregnancy will proceed or not.

...I'm trying to keep my head occupied, and feel very optimistic sometimes, and very pessimistic at other times.

...we'll see...
