Another May Baby born *ETA birth story

Baby Luc arrived 5-9 at 3 am. He weighed 9 lbs 2 oz and was 20.5 inches long. I transfered from a planned hb to an induced hospital birth for PIH. We are finally at home now, both fine. I will post a detailed birth story when I have more time.

Birth Story

So friday I woke up with unusual swelling. I never really knew what that meant till I experienced it. My hands were bright red like lobster claws. I have never seen anything like it. And I thought I was swollen before. My mw called not too much after that and we talked about what was going on. She didn't even want me to come to her office. She told me to go straight to the hospital. She said they would probably want to keep me even if all the tests came out ok (you know over due, big baby). We got there and my bp was pretty high, but all the labs came back fine. I did have a headache though, pretty bad actually. We did a bpp and baby scored a 4. He didn't move at all, again. I even ate lunch and had a candy bar before we got there so he would be awake. It had no effect on him at all. Then I went on the monitors and baby was flat, non reactive. That was it for me. I knew I was staying. My criteria for getting induced was as long as I was fine and baby was fine I would have my hb, but as soon as the baby stopped moving, was non reactive and my bp went up I was going in. All those things happened and I really didn't want to have a hospital birth but I knew it was for the best.

We started pit at 3. I wasn't allowed on my back (cause the baby was non reactive) and laying on my sides was excruciating so I sat up for labor. I started at 4 cm and 60% and after 7 hours of laboring I was only 5 cm. A new nurse had just come on and she wasn't nice at all. I was so discouraged and asked for an epidural. 2 hours later I was 8 cm. I asked that I not push when complete and just bring the baby down by breathing. I did not want to push. I hate pushing. When they checked me again babies head was right there. Everyone was freaking out telling me not to push. I kinda rolled my eyes. Like I was gonna push. Then they made me push. Ugh. At least I only had to do it 3 times. Luc was born with quite the caput. Which freaked dh out cause he had never seen it before. He just has such a big head lol. I hemorrhaged pretty badly. Which I suspected would happen during pg. I kept reminding dh where the pit was in the birth kit. But this hemmorhage pit would not have touched. They did bimanual compression and finally cytotec. I am still weak and tired. My mw said I should be really glad I had an epidural, I am guessing it would have been incredibly painful to have had that done without it.

The experience at the hospital was wonderful except for the one nurse. They honored everything we asked. They understood that I did not want to be there. When we first got there they didn't even insist we stay. They left us alone to make the decision. We got to take our placenta home, no questions asked. They didn't do antibiotics even though I didn't know my gbs status. I got to keep the bag of water intact the whole labor, he was born in the caul. They said they don't even put stuff on the cord anymore. I have had a home birth transfer before and this one made me really sad on how badly the last one went off. This hospital was SO much better. I can barely compare. And I thought I had a good hospital birth before! Now I know what a good hospital birth can really be like. Of course its nothing like home. I missed being home. I missed my kids SO much. You just can not get comfortable at a hospital. But they took really good care of me. They were actually concerned about our comfort and well being. I just want to encourage women who are scared of hb transfer and have heard all the horror stories, it can be a wonderful experience.

Baby is so beautiful, of course I am a bit biased. He has a head full of black hair (I had dreams he would have black hair), and huge dimples in his cheeks. My other kids are so in love with him. They won't leave us alone. Tandeming is going good, but I don't think I will ever get off the sofa lol.
