BumGenius vs. Fuzzi Bunz

Thread Starter
We are trying to decide between BumGenius and Fuzzi Bunz for cloth diapering and would love feedback from those of you who have used either of these brands before. All of our friends IRL use disposables, so I need some help! :

Does the BumGenius 3.0 (one size fits all) really fit?

Thanks in advance,

~Sarah

The Bum Genius did fit for awhile, not until about 10 lbs though. The problem I had with them though was the elastic blew out at around a year so they really weren't long term for us.

i have used both and like neither.

I have used both and like both.

We only had the small FB's and once DS grew out of those, we have gone solely with the BG's. He weighs 25 pounds now and they still fit him well. He was a super chunky infant and is now an average-to-slim toddler and they fit him through both stages.

I've used both. I loved Fuzzy Bunz the best, but I sold each size until the larges and then stayed with larges. With this new baby, I didn't want to go through the trouble of selling diapers, so I got the all in one size Bumgenius.

Fuzzi Bunz benefits- washing is easier, no dealing with velcro and you don't have to pull out the insert to wash.

drawbacks- having to buy each size as your baby grows

Bum-genius benefits- only buying one size, the small microfiber doubler that comes with it is perfect for non-bulky extra protection.

drawbacks- having to prepare diapers for washing by taking out the insert and fastening the velcro correctly. fleece seems to stain more easily than FB fleece

Both fit similarly and feel similar. The bg has a slightly thicker fleece liner. And YES, BG fits all the sizes because of strategically placed snaps.

Oh- I would add that the BG's didn't fit my kiddo until he was around 11 pounds (which was 3 weeks old for him).

Which do you prefer?

I am in the same boat. I thought about buying a bunch of the xs/small fuzzi buns for the first few months and then the bumgenius one size.

My Bumgenious stink. I have tried everything and it is just something I deal with now. I have heard that this brand is worse than a lot of other pockets. That said the elastics have also gone out in the legs(I just repaired them). They fit my babies from 10 lbs to age 3ish. I still use them on my 2 and 3 year old(naps). I'm not sure what I am going to do for the baby though. I have 26 diapers and after 2 years they are pretty worn. I may go back to motherease one size (with covers) that I used with my first two.

I tried FB when I first started CDing and couldn't get them not to leak. I sold them, but wish I hadn't now, because after 2 years of CDing I probably would know why - you just kind of figure those things out. I have 26 BG diapers and love them, but I do have the stink problem. I strip them at least every couple weeks. I bought the 2.0s to start, and had the same elastic problem others describe, but I was able to return all the ones that the elastic blew and they were replaced with 3.0s, which I haven't had the same problem with at all, and I've had them for about the same amount of time. I plan on using prefolds for the newborn stage for my new baby, as the BGs don't fit until about 10 pounds, and then I will move into the BGs. Hopefully I will have DS out of them by then!

In keeping with the DDC Guidelines, I am moving this to the diapering forum.

I use both and like both.....I think the ONLY thing I don't like about the BG 3.0's is sometimes depending on what ds is wearing the top kind of folds down and in (which the FB also do) and sometimes the velcro can irritate ds's stomach but I notice it pretty much only happens when I don't make them tight enough.

They did fit ds at birth but he was a 10lber....and they were still the slightest bit bulky on him and he also had a large frame at birth so I can't imagine them fitting a newborn/baby that was too much smaller than that....well fit them good anyways.

But I have been using mine for 10 mos. now and the ONLY sign of wear on them is they don't stick to the laundry tabs too well anymore. But the elastic is just fine and so is the grip of the velcro to the actual diaper. They get used a LOT too....I have to wash every other day..I only have 12 BG and 12 FB...So I guess I am one of the rare ones that doesn't have problems with the velcro and elastic. I can actually see my FB elastic wearing out before my BG. You do have to "clean out" the velcro tabs every once in a while as they will accumulate hair or lose threads but that takes all of 2 seconds...I think that may be why so many people have problems with the velcro not sticking well.

We have both and I used to prefer the BG because they fit Ds a lot better, but now I am leaning more towards the FB. We have both the sized FB and some of the new one size and I love both of them.

I didn't cloth diaper him as a newborn, but I can't imagine the BG fitting right away.

I Would Pick FB

I would pick FuzzI Bunz :

- you can get Fuzzi Bunz seconds for $12 each and the flaws are so minor you often can't find them even with a first quality to compare to (BG costs twice that).

- Fuzzi Bunz have snaps, which last longer than velcro or aplix.

- our experience with size FB medium is that they fit forever. They say 15 to 30 pounds, but our kids started wearing the size medium a little before 15lbs, and they fit our girls until they potty trained, which a little beyond 30 lbs. I'd rather have newborn diapers for the first few months that actually fit a newborn well then trying to go with a one-size diaper on a six or seven pound baby. I got my BG when DS was about about seven months old, and he was wearing it on the smallest size, so I find it very hard to imagine using BG for the first couple months... especially considering the cost of BG and the number of diapers you need for that stage.

I don't like pocket diapers, as I've found them to stink and leak more than, say, fitteds. However, I've tried both FB and BG and they both work okay. The FB are going to be more durable, because of the snaps. The BG are nice to have for daycare because they work more like disposables. My daughter outgrew them a few months before she turned three (they kept coming undone and falling off on the playground--not exactly the way to make a good impression on the other toddlers!).

I have both and like both for different reasons. I like the BG organic one size AIO much better than the BG one size pocket.

FB-- very easy to clean, and dry super fast. I LOVED the x-smalls on my newborn. FB fit very trim.

BG organic AIO- so, so easy to use. It's actually my only AIO that I don't back up with something else. Very soft, and cleans really easily. The layers separate on their own when cleaning, so they don't take long to dry and you don't have to snap or stuff anything. I use these at night often.

BG OS pocket-- cleans well also. Can stuff a lot in there without affecting the way the leg gussets fit.

Now, that being said, I'm currently liking my Thirsties AIOs the best (with a hemp stuffer). They always get bad reviews (and they do take a long time to dry, but you can flip them inside out halfway through the drying time and then they don't). They hold in leaks the best. I use these when we're out of the house and I really don't want leaks.

We started out with FBs and they were okay when my son was tiny...however, as he grew we had MAJOR problems with leaks...

He's on the slim/small side and the legs always leaked urine. They also stink...much, MUCH worse than prefolds. I won't be buying any pockets this time around, but I am really unsatisfied with FBs.

*on a positive note...my son will be 3 in August and could still wear a Medium.

I used FB with my first DD and loved them. However, I did not use the microfiber inserts that time. I used prefolds to stuff them with. NO STINK

With DD number two I used FB as well but I had microfiber inserts. BIG STINK, that I have yet to get out. If I use a prefold to stuff then the stink isn't there. I have concluded that my stink problems are from the microfiber. I will never use those microfiber inserts again.

I have tried BumGenius and initially loved the AIO's for outings. Easy, trim, cute. I liked the stretchy taps but the elastic on all of mine broke so soon. I won't be buying anymore. I have a single one size I bought to try and it is bulky and didn't fit. Elastic broke on that one as well. Hate the insert, besides being the stinky microfiber I found the whole one size insert thing bulky and looked uncomfortable.

I am sticking with FB with a prefold stuffed inside. I use the infant regular or premium for Medium size folded in thirds long ways. Does that make sense?

I use and love both. BG one-size may not last on a very tall child, but if that happens, the large FB will likely fit at that point. Pockets are my favorite style of diaper, and these two diapers, along with GADs, make up the majority of my stash.

I would get some of each, including the XS FB to have something that fits properly during the newborn period.

FWIW, we have no problems with stink, elastic, or velcro. The BG velcro has improved immensely.
