favourite senior cat food?

i mean, one that your cat actually likes

i've decided that it's time for my 13 yo kitty to switch to senior/ less active food. she's really slowed down in the last six months and she's starting to look like an older cat.

she really likes wet food (thanks to my dh spoiling her so she will only eat the dry if there's nothing else.

we currently feed the costco maintenance diet but they don't offer a senior formula. i like innova for my dog but i'm not sure about their cat foods...

any suggestions?

Is she gaining weight? Or what specifically is making you want to change foods? Many "senior" foods are just full of fillers (grains). I know a lot of people who have had good success with the Innova and EVO cat foods. However, there can sometimes be some palatabilty problems so they might not be the best for your kitty unless you want to keep adding canned food to the dry.

her activity level is much lower and i guess as she's showing her age i want to make sure she's eating well. she's actually losing weight a little, in that typical older cat way- her hips and spine are bonier and more prominent.

her teeth are remarkably clean so i'm not terribly concerned about too much wet food... and i'd feed her raw but she has zero interest in anything but beef jerky and tuna water

i'd always heard less protein was better so as not to tax their kidneys but i'm not sure if that's still the best advice...?

We get our cat the adult formula http://www.professionalpetfood.com/ But they have a senior one too. My cats LOVE it and it is the only cat food I have found that does not make my oldest cat puke- everything else makes him get sick and it went on for years and I finally (after tying everything at the box stores) went to the feed store and talked with the guy who works there he told me to try this food and gave me a bunch of samples and then had me come back in a few days and report- my cat has been puke free since! He is 8.

If she's losing weight I wouldn't switch her to senior food. Most of them actually have fewer kcal/cup since most of us tend to go up in size as we get older

In Innova for instance their senior is 428 kcal/cup (13% fat) while their normal adult cat and kitten is 517 kcal/cup (20% fat).

She could be losing weight if she's eating mostly canned food because so much of it is water. I couldn't tell from the OP how often you DP gives into her terror-kitty demands for canned food Have you tried giving her a more nutrient-dense dry food or increasing her canned food?
